The Temperance Movement, beginning in Ohio and spread across the nation, was a focused on the banning of alcohol in the United States to improve public morality, family life, economic well-being, and social stability. Many people during the temperance movement believed that alcohol was one of the main contributors to these issues in America and the movement was mainly driven by women who were at the forefront of these issues, often watching there husbands allow drinking to cause numerous problems while they had to deal with it's effects. The movement started with strong opposition from the American public, especially with female protesting becoming common but gained traction overtime.Â
