Longview isd virtual academy
Longview ISD Virtual Academy has been designed in accordance with Senate Bill 15 for students who have succeeded in a face to face academic learning environment and wish to learn in a completely virtual learning environment. The Virtual Academy is a program designed to meet the needs of students in an asynchronous learning platform with supports provided through a synchronous environment.
Overview
The academy serves students in Grades 3-12 who had all an A and B yearly average in core curriculum classes in the 2021-2022 school year, and who earned meets or better on the reading and math portions of the STAAR tests in 2022 or 2022 Beginning of Year assessment.
LISD Virtual Academy student enrollment is limited to 10% of district enrollment.
The academy offers grade level courses and electives required for graduation.
Students may participate in extracurricular activities at the campus, but the parent/guardian is responsible for providing student transportation to and from school, immediately before and immediately after the extracurricular activity event or practice.
Students engage in learning modules remotely from home.
Parents must attend an orientation prior to students beginning the virtual academy. Parents will learn the academy's learning framework and expectations and learn their roles and responsibilities in helping their children succeed in the program.
Parents must support their students by ensuring their student completes their work each day and proactively initiates conversations with the teacher or administrator before students fall behind.
Students must maintain a 98% attendance rate.
Academy instructors can provide tutorials or work with the student's home campus for the student to receive more targeted intervention.
Students must complete work in a timely fashion to be on track for course completion.
Students are required to take all campus common assessments at their home campus.
Students who fail to perform successfully in online learning, pass common assessments or maintain a 98% attendance rate can have their schedule changed back to a face-to-face learning environment at their home campus.
