Teachers are making home visits in order to better meet the needs of the students and their families. In promoting a partnership between parents and teachers, home visits provide the means for effective team problem-solving, observing students in their home environment, and encouraging parent involvement. It also builds a personal bond between the students, parents, and teachers to ensure optimum success. In addition, it provides a sense of security for the parents to know that their children are in good and caring hands, and allows the parent to give feedback on their student’s academic experience.
The LISA Academy Home Visit Program is simple: teachers and parents become equal partners to increase the academic achievement of students. They form a relationship through which they can share dreams, expectations, and tools regarding the child’s academic success. Teachers learn more about their students, involve parents more in their child’s education, and bridge cultural gaps that may exist. Home visits communicate in a clear and unambiguous way that their child’s school cares enough to initiate personal contact with the goal of establishing a relationship that nurtures the child’s academic success. The LISA Academy Home Visit Program utilizes a schedule and structure that has been developed and proven to break down barriers that often exist between schools and the community and to provide opportunities for the sharing of goals and expectations. From the first visit focusing on relationship building, the program solidifies and strengthens the relationship with families. It helps parents/guardians understand where their child is academically and provides tools to increase the parents’ capacity to assist their child in specific areas as needed.
