Submission Rules

Who can participate?

Current undergraduate and graduate students of Lipscomb University

What should my art be based on?

The art you submit should be cover art for a published work of fiction. Contest organizers highly recommend books with iconic covers or works considered "classic literature."

How should I create my art?

Use a digital art software to design and create your art. Software includes but is not limited to Procreate, Illustrator, Maya, Blender, and Photoshop.

I don't have access to digital art software. Can I still participate?

Of course! The Beaman Library has 10 iPads with the Procreate app. Each iPad comes with its own Apple Pencil. Check a set out today and start creating!

What size should my artwork be? How should I mount it?

Artwork must be printed and mounted on 11x17 foam board

Submissions must also come with the original cover art printed and mounted on 5.5x8.25 foam board

What design parameters do I need to follow?

Submitted designs should include original artwork, the book title, author name, and artist name.

The book title should take up no more than 50% of the design space. Author and artist name should take up no more than 10% of the design space.

What is the criteria for judging?

Works will be judged based on the integration of the book’s thematic elements, originality and creativity of the artwork, and quality of artistic composition and overall design based on the theme.

How do I submit my work?

Between September 15 and October 5, submit your printed and mounted 11x17 artwork, printed and mounted 5.5x8.25 original cover, and entry form to the circulation desk at the Beaman Library. Submissions will be accepted until the library closes at midnight on October 5.

How can I view the artwork?

Submitted pieces will be on display in the library's east wing from October 10 through October 31.

Where can I go to print and mount my art?

The Beaman Library has a color printer that will print 11x17 pages. These prints will cost $1.00 ($.50 for color printing and $.50 for the larger sized paper). You can also print at most any office supply stores. There is a FedEx Print store within a mile of Lipscomb's campus. Foam board can be purchased at most any arts and craft store. There is a Michael's craft store at the nearby 100 Oaks Mall. If you're in a bind, the library will have a small supply of foam board precut for a fee. Please contact the Beaman Library for further information.

Where can I find the contest entry form?

A PDF of the entry form can be found here. The Beaman Library will also have printed copies of this entry form at the library's circulation desk.

I have more questions. Who can help?
