Reading intervention is designed to meet students at their level and close any learning gaps that may have arisen in reading. Changes in federal and state laws have directed schools to focus on helping all children learn by addressing problems earlier within the general education setting. These new laws emphasize the importance of providing high quality, scientifically based instruction and interventions for students who are at risk for academic or behavioral problems. This process is called MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Supports) and it is designed to help schools focus on high quality interventions that are matched to student's needs and monitored on a frequent basis. MTSS supports are divided into a three-tier model. Tier 1 consists of core instruction delivered to all students. Tier 2 consists of targeted group intervention delivered to at-risk students in addition to core instruction. Tier 3 includes customized, intense interventions delivered in addition to core instruction.
Lindenwold Middle School utilizes various assessments to determine individual student needs. Some of the yearly assessments include Linkit benchmark tests, IXL assessments, and classroom assessments. In reading intervention, students are regularly progress monitored to determine skill groups and strengths and weaknesses. Parents will receive progress reports each quarter that explain areas of growth and areas we will continue to address in class.
