Our rookie robot is built on the kit bot chassis. The drive train, shoulder, and spool are powered by Rev Robotics Neo motors. The extruder arm is powered by a Rev Robotics Neo 550 motor. Our claw moves in and out when a Bowden cable, aka bicycle brake line, pulls on wire rope. The Bowden cable moves when a spool of nylon cord is turned.
We programmed our robot using Java. In autonomous mode, our robot can score a cone on the high node and has mobility. In teleop, our robot can efficiently score low cones and cubes and can balance on the charge station.

Bearcat Robotics was excited to attend our very first regional competition, the Bayou Regional in Kenner, La, March 30-April 1, 2023. We learned so much from fellow teams! While our robot faced numerous technical challenges, we really worked together as a team to make repairs to be prepared for the next match. We were ecstatic to be awarded the Rookie All Star Award! According to FIRST, the Rookie All Star Award "celebrates the rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology." Through a series of fortunate events, we were also awarded a wild card to attend the FIRST Championship!
In two short weeks from the Bayou Regional, we geared up to attend the Championship! It was held at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX. We are so grateful for the nearly 100 donors, made up of our family, friends, community members, and businesses, who made our trip possible. We began our trip in Houston with a visit to Space Center Houston. We were so honored to be one of the few rookie teams among the 624 total teams from 59 countries. So many teams showed us such gracious professionalism, stepping in to help us with needed materials and programming help. It was a phenomenal experience that has motivated our team to reach the Championship in the future!
Thank you all for contributing specifically to our trip to the FIRST Championship!
