SHIELD ME PLEASE

Coronavirus Response

This site is designed to communicate and interact with students and the community about our local effort in Lincoln County to respond to the current situation, and help protect those who are bravely fighting for all of us right here everyday. Please donate today to help us continue to purchase materials and fulfill the need!

Update 6.9: We have fulfilled the current hospital order of 400 shields for Lincoln County medical workers. We are also working with local agencies to build supply for local businesses as they reopen. We are slowing our operation but stand ready in the case of another spike.

Update 4.30: We will be showcasing our workspace today as we wrap up the main preliminary orders for local hospitals.

Update 4.18: Another 100 shield are ready to go out on Monday. Thanks for your help getting to this point!

Update 4.12: Donations are coming in (see link above and on our facebook page, 'shield me please',). Thank you for the contributions! This will help us acquire the materials needed to fulfill our current order and to be ready for others in need.

Update 4.11: We have made our first significant donation! More printers are up and running, and we are refining our process. Here's the latest video, also available on facebook, here.

Update 4.8: We have about 100 shields ready to go, just a little cleanup and sanitizing. In addition to the 200 for Samaratin hospitals in Lincoln City and Newport we have a request from local clinics for another 150. We are delivering the sanitized parts--laser cut PETG sheet, 3D printed PETG headband, tourniquet strap, and instructions in a ziploc bag. The contents are ready for sanitizing and then assembly, and serve as a single user product.

Update 4.2: We have moved equipment into a clean room at OCCC-- thanks Dave Price and others at the college! We are tuning machines and printing now, and will get the camera hooked up here soon so you can follow along!

We have a current request from Lincoln City and Newport Samaratin hospitals for 100 face shields each, but will be ready in case more is needed.

Update 3.28: The host for the printers will now likely be a room in the Oregon Coast Community College Lincoln City Campus. The new design, thanks to Lindsey Johnson, will allow hospitals to use tourniquet elastics easily to finish the strap and custom size it.

Update 3.27: We plan to move 6 printers into a hospital building with production of the faceshield headbands. This will keep the masks closer to the hospital and in a more sterile environment from production to delivery.

We are waiting on supplies to show up this weekend and then we are excited to increase our production!

Send any questions to Noah.Lambie@Lincoln.k12.or.us and I will post any answers I can give

Our process

We have established a team of local Educators, District Administration, OCCC, and medical personnel to innovate products and create avenues for the relief of an impending shortage of face shields and PPE. Soon, we hope to have students closely but safely involved in the process, as many of these machines are from the High School and they are the real experts.

Get in on the conversation!

The current team:

  • Lindsey Johnson: OCCC Community Ed Instructor and Maker
  • Noah Lambie: LCSD teacher of Physics and CTE design
  • Bryan Freschi: LCSD Technology TOSA
  • Ronda Brewer: Chief Idea Evaluator
  • David Gomberg: Representative
  • Lesley Ogden: CEO for North Lincoln and Newport Samaratin
  • Shanna Middaugh: Lead Infection Preventionist Oregon Coast
  • Dave Price: OCCC Small Business Development
  • Dr. Karen Gray: LCSD Superindendent
  • Majalise Tolan: LCSD Secondary Teaching and Learning Administrator
