The Standards

School Libraries have educational standards

The following Common Beliefs and summary descriptions are identified as central to the School Library profession:

An effective school library bridges digital and socioeconomic divides to affect information technology access and skill.

Crosswalks

As part of its continued commitment to provide school library professionals the materials and resources needed to implement its new “National School Library Standards,” the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has released crosswalks aligning the AASL Standards to the ISTE Standards for Learners and Educators and the Future Ready Framework. These downloadable and printable PDFs are available on the AASL Standards Portal and are a precursor to a searchable, web-based crosswalk to launch in 2019.

About the Crosswalks

The AASL Standards Crosswalk Task Force recognizes that sets of standards vary in their nature and level of specificity or generality. When cross-walking standards sets, it is prudent and necessary to leave some interpretation open to the professional educator. Depending on the language used, not all sets of national standards are aligned equally to AASL’s learner, school librarian, and school library frameworks.
