Oregon Battle of the Books

CDL OBOB

Our mission at Taft Elementary for OBOB 2020-2021 is to focus on reading the books and meeting biweekly with all interested readers and our staff coaches after school on Zoom to discuss the books being read.

We are not focusing on competitions or questions. Due to the fact we are starting mid-year, we are going to enjoy the connections and relationships we create together to these amazing books.

Schedule for the meeting times and link are to come by the end of Jan. Check this website page, facebook, and/or ask your teacher for up to date information.

For now:

What is OBOB?

Oregon Battle of the Books, OBOB, is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints(Pg 4).

In OBOB for the school year, students commit to reading at least 4 out of the 16 books from the list in their division. Our main focus is to promote reading, create a commitment in readers, and to inspire that reading is fun!

Teams are decided after students are committed and several books are read. Teams can be chosen for them by a coach or the student can form their own team of four, them included.

With their team of 4 members, students will begin the OBOB competition at Taft Elementary, and then depending on how well they do on these competitions, students will progress onward to Regionals and State.
