In Lincoln County Schools, we have been working for about a year and a half to define personalized learning and create a plan for its implementation. District administration and school-based administrators are collaborating on the model we will use to enhance the personalized learning that already exists in our classrooms.
To me, personalized learning is much bigger than electronic devices, playlists, pathways, and flexible seating arrangements; it is a change in philosophy. I am excited to be a part of this work in Lincoln County!
While serving on our district’s Personalized Learning Task Force in Catawba County Schools, I collaborated closely with our Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to determine how to introduce the personalized learning initiative to teachers without overwhelming them. River Bend has served as the pilot secondary school and our teachers have changed their classroom environments and teaching practices in order to embrace personalized learning.
