hS Film Studies

Film Production is a fascinating world. If you have ever watched the credits after a major motion picture film, you have seen the hundreds if not thousands of people that have played a role in producing that film.

In this class we discuss the art of film making and everything that goes into it.

Some recent topics we have discussed in class have been:

  • Character arcs
  • Character types
  • Film budgets
  • MPAA rating scale
  • Stages of production (Project Management)
  • Film Editing
  • Sound
  • Jobs in the Film Industry

We accomplish this by viewing a number of films and have invigorating discussions about them. We dive into philosophical conversations that dive deeper than, "I liked it" or "that was a good movie". I have students pick apart the film and discuss budgets and casting choices to why the screen writer decided to have an actor say this rather than something else and so on.

At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, the students shot a short film as their final project.
