2) Affordable Fee Structures:
Lighthouse awards scholarships to students starting in Reception, based on strict criteria that demonstrate not only household financial need - below a set maximum - but also parental commitment to contribute a portion of the fees and support their child’s learning.  As a child matures, academic and character criteria are increasingly considered in order to renew the scholarship on an annual basis.  In short, scholarship students must be additive to the Lighthouse community.

Did you know that Lighthouse deliberately does not differentiate its scholarship students from full fee-paying students?  Uniforms, a shared meals programme, and consistent expectations all play a key role in creating an environment where children from different socioeconomic backgrounds can learn and grow together on equal footing.

Many families who have explored other schooling options for their children often notice that Lighthouse’s fees - across every category - are significantly lower than those of other non-aided schools. While some may assume that a lower price means lower quality, at Lighthouse, our reduced fees are intentional and by design - not a reflection of lesser value. We are deeply committed to excellence and to the continual growth, expansion, and improvement of our school.

We place high value on professionally skilled staff and are committed to offering better-than-market-based remuneration. We also prioritise continued staff development and training. For us, the status quo is never enough - we believe a school should be continually evolving, always moving forward with purpose and vision.

How our 5-step progress works: 

1. Identification
   Our Student Care Team works with classroom teachers to identify children who may need extra support, should they not have been identified by their parents or previous schools.

2. Recommendation & Meeting
   The team suggests intervention strategies and meets with parents to discuss possible learning barriers and the support available.

3. Support Programme Implementation
   A personalised 8-week support plan is put in place and carried out by the therapist, in collaboration with the child’s teachers and class assistants.

4. Mid-Programme Progress Check
   A progress report is shared halfway through the programme with space for feedback and adjustments from both parents and teachers.

5. End-of-Programme Review
   At the end of the 8 weeks, a full report is shared with parents. This is created in consultation with the teaching and learning support team and includes recommendations for the following term.

Our Therapy Space

Lighthouse has a fully equipped, spacious therapy room designed to meet a wide range of needs. Our space includes various tools that support learning including a swing, various flexible seating options, mats and other equipment promoting fine and gross motor development as well as a sensory area. 

Looking ahead, we are working towards implementing a gross motor and sensory support curriculum that will be rolled out to the whole Reception grade as part of our commitment to early intervention. 

Our Learning Support team will soon be expanding with the addition of a dedicated Primary SEN teacher, who will work alongside teachers from Grade 1 to 6 to better support children experiencing barriers to learning.  

2. Counselling Support
Lighthouse also offers free counselling services in both the primary and secondary school, with a dedicated team of two qualified counsellors.

Primary students are referred to counsellors by parents and teachers for social emotional support. This happens as needed and in consultation with parents and teachers. The length of the intervention will be determined on a case by case basis. Counsellors also offer a new student check-in to facilitate smooth transition into the Lighthouse community.

The counselling team in Secondary plays a vital role in supporting students’ overall wellbeing while fostering a safe, inclusive environment for growth. As part of the Student Care Team, counselors collaborate weekly with Learning Support, the Curriculum Leader and the Pastoral Care Leader to identify and respond to student needs in a timely and effective manner. Their work extends beyond individual sessions with students to include proactive engagement through events like Mental Health Awareness Week, classroom-based social and emotional learning interventions, and school-wide initiatives that promote wellbeing.

Advocating for student voice is another key aspect, ensuring that learners feel heard and represented. Additionally, the counselling team at times has offered guidance to parents when appropriate and facilitates external referrals when specialised or long-term support is needed.

The counselling approach is grounded in accessibility, trust, and respect for student autonomy. Students can connect with a counsellor in a variety of ways - by reaching out directly via email or in person, through referrals from the Student Care Team, or occasionally by teachers who have concerns. Once connected, students may participate in one-on-one sessions tailored to their needs and preferences, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or on a more flexible basis. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the process, creating a safe space where students can speak openly. Counselling sessions involve active listening, identifying challenges, and working collaboratively on strategies for coping and resilience. 

Topics can range from friendship and relationship issues to academic stress, personal identity, or mental health concerns. Counsellors also share helpful resources and guide students as they navigate complex emotions, encouraging self-awareness and growth.

3. Growing Faculty Team 

Over the past year, Lighthouse has increased its investment in strengthening and expanding its teaching team. We allocated 22% more towards growing our faculty across both Primary and Secondary schools, and boosted spending on teacher benefits by 25% - a reflection of our commitment to attracting, supporting, and retaining exceptional educators.

4. Strengthening our French Department

As part of our ongoing commitment to academic excellence, we are in the process of strengthening our French department to provide students with a more robust and internationally aligned language learning experience.

We are changing the French curriculum to align with the CECR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), the global standard for learning, teaching, and assessing French. 

This shift ensures that our students build a stronger foundation in the language and are better prepared to meet international standards. 

As part of this change, we have begun implementing a level-based model within each grade, moving from two groups to up to three differentiated groups (A1.1, A1, and A2). This structure allows for more tailored instruction, with students progressing through clearly defined CECR levels that provide transparent learning goals and measurable outcomes. 

By having more groups per grade, students can develop greater confidence and competence across all four language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking. 

These changes not only enhance their day-to-day learning but also better prepare them for the DELF exam, an internationally recognised certification that provides lifelong proof of their proficiency in French. This qualification can open doors to a wide range of academic and professional opportunities worldwide.

Additionally, we have fostered greater awareness among students and staff about the importance of learning French by celebrating La Semaine de la langue française et de la Francophonie in March. This special week featured a variety of French-focused activities and immersive learning experiences designed to highlight the richness of the language and its global significance.
