While standing in the shady grove of our school’s forest during Forest School, and looking back over the students in various forms of recreation with caring teachers, are you aware that you’re looking at a financial miracle? The things we enjoy now are often the result of many “happenstances” and hearts of generosity. And the current students and families are likewise building into the future.

When the original deed of land was signed with intent to purchase, we did not have the funds. They were raised from donations, and paid within one day of the deadline. When it came time to build what is now our primary classrooms 10-18, Hub and Pavilion, the contractor (a Lighthouse parent) unexpectedly offered his own interest-free loan to finance it, to encourage his management team in taking over his company.
A cyclone convinced aquaponics farmers (and Lighthouse parents) Christopher and Emilie Lai Chi Keung to stop operations and generously offer to re-home all of their equipment to Lighthouse, which at the time was working on its own plan for a 3-by-5 meter aquaponics installation (it is now 30-by-50 meters…).

The history of provision for the school, not only in terms of land, buildings and farm equipment, but even more so, PEOPLE such as the unparalleled staff members, is full of stories of unsolicited and unexpected generosity. It helps us to stick to our Christian principles of running the school even when conventional wisdom might dictate caution. You can read further on for some other examples. Let’s be encouraged in cultivating our own hearts of ongoing generosity, and see things flourish.

Letter from the Executive Head
Dear Lighthouse Community,
Our vision statement proclaims “We are a community-minded Christian school that seeks to educate students to discover their identity and purpose.” We want their horizons of opportunity to be as unbounded as possible, which places a remarkable onus on us to serve at our very best as a school. To that end, Lighthouse committed to an accreditation process to reflect on our current status and receive expert feedback as to the quality of Lighthouse’s education. After four years of preparation, the capstone of the process will be our ACSI/MSA accreditation visit in the week of 19 May. In education circles, accreditation represents a formal acknowledgement by a reputable outside educational organization that a school has attained a defined level of quality. Read more >

In other words, the accrediting agency is lending its reputation as an endorsement of the school to distinguish the school for excellence. Lighthouse is seeking a dual accreditation with two different accrediting agencies’ endorsements, the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Middle States Association Council on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS).

So why seek dual accreditation? Both agencies have quality standards about the school’s academics, finances, leadership, safety, services, and stakeholder relationships that must be met to receive accreditation. As a Christian school, ACSI has additional expectations about the quality of Christian education and values within the school. MSA-CESS brings with it a greater recognition among private and public universities on every continent. So each agency contributes to our accountability simply as a school, but ACSI furthermore as a Christian school.

The value of achieving accreditation to students and families in Lighthouse includes:

Expert advice on our strategic planning and continuous school improvement for the future.
Validation for parents that we are offering quality education compared to international standards.
Recognition and acceptance of our academic records for our graduates’ admissions to post-secondary institutions

Finally, we are excited to host the accreditation team - comprising members of North America, Central America, and Africa - and to receive the valuable feedback they will provide. We value your children and their education, and see accreditation as a duty to hold ourselves accountable to serving you to the best of our ability. We thank you for your contributions to our improvements through your responses to surveys, participation in parent information sessions, and most importantly trusting us with your children.
