Classes of 2021 and 2022 : Where Are They Now?

Jemimah Ah-Hing (2021): From Paris-Panthéon-Assas University to Studying to Law In Bristol, U.K.

Dear Lighthouse Family,

One achievement I hold close to my heart is my ability to remain resilient through the different stages of my journey so far.

After graduating from Lighthouse, I returned to the school as a learning assistant for the former Grade 6 class, which was a truly meaningful experience for me.

I then went on to study law at Paris-Panthéon-Assas University in Pierrefonds (Quatre Bornes). Today, I am studying at BPP University in Bristol, where I am also living, and in less than a month, I will be completing my Postgraduate Diploma in Law.

I hope to undertake the Bar Course next summer, so that I may be called to the Bar as a barrister.

Looking back, I feel that Lighthouse prepared me exceptionally well for university life.

I developed the ability to work independently and to build meaningful connections with people from very diverse backgrounds. The strong emphasis on service within the Lighthouse values has also stayed with me and continues to inspire me to find ways to use my skills to serve the community around me.

I was privileged to be part of a small class of only eight students. That close-knit environment and the personal approach of the teachers played a significant role in helping me grow in confidence and in all that I undertake. Studying law over the past four years has not always been easy, and there have been moments of doubt.

In those times, I remind myself that God has a plan and will not let me down. I believe that the challenges I face serve a purpose, helping me grow and learn how to navigate different situations.

Above all, I carry with me the constant support and encouragement of my teachers at Lighthouse, who have always inspired me to strive for my fullest potential. I am deeply grateful for the role the school has played in shaping who I am today.

Sabine Dalais (2022): Researching Deep-Sea Microbial Activity and so Much More at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania

Dear Lighthouse Community,

I am writing from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where I am studying as a chemical engineering major at Lehigh University.

One of the milestones I am most proud of so far is my involvement in three different research groups at my university. Through these experiences, I have contributed to research on carbon capture nanomaterials, deep-sea microbial activity, and emissions from coal refuse piles. These opportunities have allowed me to explore meaningful scientific challenges and grow both academically and personally.

In hindsight, I feel that Lighthouse prepared me very well for university life. I developed the ability to work independently and to build connections with people from very diverse backgrounds, which has been invaluable in my studies and research work.

The strong emphasis on service within Lighthouse’s values has also had a lasting impact on me. It continues to inspire me to look for ways to use my skills and knowledge to contribute positively to the community around me, especially through the work I pursue in science and engineering.

I am truly grateful for the foundation Lighthouse has given me and for the role it continues to play in shaping my journey.

Hemadrika Mohan (2021): "It's a Privilege to Now Give Back to the Same Community"

Dear Lighthouse Community,

I'm Hemadrika Mohan - some may know me as Ms Radika by now - and I am happy to still call Mauritius, and Lighthouse, home.

Today, I am working at Lighthouse Primary and Secondary School as a Grade 1 teacher, while also pursuing my Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the Mauritius Institute of Education. It feels very special to now be part of the same community that once nurtured me as a student.

When I reflect on my journey, I realise that what I am most proud of is not just one single achievement, but the many meaningful memories I made during my time at school. Those experiences have stayed with me and continue to shape who I am. Completing my degree after leaving school is also something I am deeply proud of, as it marked an important step forward in my personal and professional growth.

In many ways, my decision to become a teacher finds its roots in my time at Lighthouse. The dedication, care, and faith demonstrated by my teachers inspired me deeply. Being in that environment helped me discover a love for teaching and a desire to serve God through what I do.

It is a privilege to now give back to the same community, and I carry with me the hope of making a similar impact on my own students, just as my teachers once did for me.

Moné Jordaan (2022): Learning How to Navigate Crossroads Brought Her from Studying Marine Life to Setting Up a Baking Family Business

Dear Lighthouse Community,

Since graduating, my journey has taken me in some exciting and unexpected directions. One of the milestones I am most proud of is earning my PADI Divemaster Licence, which led me to work as a Divemaster throughout 2023. Being out at sea every day was an incredible experience and deepened my connection with the ocean.

In 2024, I transitioned into marine conservation, where I had the opportunity to contribute to several meaningful projects at the Marine Discovery Centre at Lagoon Attitude Hotel, here in Mauritius. I helped develop a sea turtle photo identification project and supported the identification of more than 800 individual turtles in Mauritian waters. I was also involved in a manta-tow sea turtle population survey and contributed to setting up a Marine Eco-guide operation, where I guided guests on snorkelling tours around the island. This role allowed me to draw on my Emergency First Responder and rescue diving training in very practical ways.

In 2025, I took a different turn and began working with my family to grow our baking business, Whisk Away. Working alongside my mom and grandmother has been a truly special experience. We now supply rusks and cookies to several retail clients, including Neofoods, La Corbeille, Meat Me, and Butchers Block, as well as to private customers across the island.

Looking back, Lighthouse has played an important role in shaping how I approach these different chapters of my life. It has helped me learn how to navigate crossroads, make thoughtful decisions, and choose paths that align with who I truly am. That sense of direction and authenticity continues to guide me in everything I do.

Shawn Pillay (2021): How Resilience and Having the Right Mindset Brought Him to Work for an International Company in France

Dear Lighthouse,

Over the past few years, my journey has taken me into the field of international business. I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in International Management, and I am now pursuing a Master’s in International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management at EM Strasbourg, France. Alongside my studies, I am working as a Strategic Purchaser at Siemens, which has been an exciting and challenging experience.

Reaching this point has not always been straightforward, which is why I am especially proud of the resilience it took to get here—both in completing my degree and in securing a role within such a large international company. Each step has pushed me to grow and adapt in new environments.

When I think back to my time at Lighthouse, one lesson stands out above all: learning to trust in myself. That mindset has been essential in navigating university life, stepping into the professional world, and taking on new responsibilities with confidence.

I’m grateful for that foundation, which continues to guide me as I move forward.
