Dare to be Different

As I watched the graduation ceremonies of both 5-year-olds and 18-year-olds this month, I loved seeing the uniqueness of each student celebrated. In what could be a 14-year journey at our school, our prayer is that each Lighthouse student can stand out from the crowd in a positive way.

To do so, those students need teachers and school heads who don’t just do what other schools do. They need parents and supporting extended families who don’t just do what other families do. Through many tiny, deliberate choices, the school and families together challenge the way things are, and look at differences as strengths. This takes collective courage and trust in God’s leading.

Let’s continue to encourage one another in not just doing things that might be in opposition to children’s flourishing just because “that’s the way it is.” In this regard, I want to take a moment to thank our extraordinary Executive Leadership:

Mr Paul Beatty, Executive Head

Mr Hannes van der Westhuysen, Head of Primary

Mr Zach Mulert, Head of Secondary

These men have consistently not just done things the easy way and encouraged the team under their leadership to think differently and empowered them to do the best in the interest of students. They are incredibly courageous. We are deeply grateful for them.
