Grade 1
Introduction
Dear families,
Welcome to the fun and exciting adventure of Grade 1. We are so happy to have these gorgeous children in our classes and look forward to a wonderful year of growing together, not only academically and physically but as a class family too.
We have had a great start to the year, besides all the rain days, and have enjoyed getting to know your children and watching new friendships blossom.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our Class Parent Liaisons for their willingness to take up this task of facilitating smooth communication between teachers and parents throughout this year.
As we start the journey in grade 1 here are a few important tips to helping your child become more independent and successful:
Label all belongings! We are still finding lots not labelled and this makes it hard for the children to identify what’s theirs as many have the same stationery, hats and water bottles.
We encourage you to let your child pack their own school bag each night with all they need for school i.e. communication book in folder, pencil case, hat and water bottle etc.
Teach your child how to get dressed and how to undress by themselves. This includes putting on socks and shoes.
If your child wears shoes with shoelaces, please teach them how to tie their own shoelaces (this is a great skill all children should learn).
Sharpen pencils and crayon pencils every day after school, so they are ready for the next day.
Make sure your child is in bed by 8pm each night.
Ensure your child has a healthy breakfast before school.
Please remember to check communication books and sign them each night.

In this unit, we’ll be finding out:
