Message from the Co-Interim Principal

It was so good to see so many parents at the parent conferences. We very much appreciate the time taken to attend these conferences and truly value our partnership with parents. The conferences themselves were a wonderful opportunity to champion the huge progress that so many of the children are making in their learning. Having the chance to carefully share the MAP testing data with parents and to hear the positive parent feedback was very encouraging.

Thanks to those parents that attended the French Webinar, again we are grateful to those who dedicated time to do this.

Make sure that you save the date for the picnic and for the Foundation Phase Camp on the 24th of July - don’t forget your marshmallow if you are staying for the camp fire! It is always an exciting time for the children and a real joy to bring families together.

Lighthouse Has Talent Finals, 24 July

Lighthouse Has Talent is happening on Friday! Auditions took place on 13 and 20 July. Finalists will be announced tomorrow 21 July and will then prepare for the finals on 24 July.

Finals will take place in the morning, and only parents of finalists will be invited to attend.

Parents of finalists will be contacted by email. Please check your email as crucial information will be shared with you.

We look forward to seeing our talented pupils on stage!

Primary Picnic and Foundation Phase Campout, 24 July

This Friday, from 17:00, join our Family Picnic, where we invite all parents and students to pack a picnic dinner and enjoy a relaxed evening under the stars. Feel free to call on your friends and family to join us for this fun evening!

Remember to please bring your own chairs, picnic blankets and tables if needed.

No food or drink will be on sale.

Foundation Phase parents (Reception to Grade 3), grandparents and students (and siblings) are invited to pack their camping gear too and stay on after the picnic for a fun campout on campus. Think campfire, marshmallows and hot chocolate!

Setup from Friday at 17:00 - Leaving on Saturday at 09:00

Bring your own:

Camping gear, including sleeping bags and every else needed for a comfortable evening!

Cutlery and crockery.

Food, snacks and drinks (no alcohol permitted); hot water will be provided.

Mosquito repellent.

Elevated barbeques are allowed, should you want to cook your food over the coals.

Cleaning materials.

Praise and Worship, 29 July

Come worship with us! On Wednesday, 29 July, parents and students are invited to join our faculty for a time of praise and worship in the Pavilion, from 07:20 to 08:00. The main gate will be open at 07:20.

Moms in Spiritual Community, Starting September 2

We are a group of Lighthouse moms meeting each Wednesday morning to study the Word of God together, pray, and encourage one another in our journeys of life. If you are seeking authentic connection with other women as you learn to trust God more deeply, there is something here for you. All women are welcome!

Wednesdays, starting September 2, 8:00-9:30am in the Primary School library. Check in at the Hub first. Please let us know you're coming by emailing library@lighthouse.edu.mu.

Parkour Workshop, Monday 27 July

Impulsion Academy is launching its 3rd edition of Impulsion Games, and this season they are opening access to schools with a brand new concept. They are inviting Lighthouse Grade 2 to 6 students (as from 7 years old) to discover Parkour through a workshop at our premises on Monday 27 July. Students will get to experience an amazing discipline that builds confidence, body awareness and mental resilience in a safe and supportive environment.

Parkour, also known as the art of movement, combines balance, agility, problem-solving and creativity. During the workshop, the coaches will guide students through an experience that strengthens not only physical skills but also mental & emotional development, fostering self-confidence, body & space awareness and the love for movement.

Students who show genuine passion and potential will have the opportunity to proudly represent their school at the Impulsion Games on August 23rd, 2026, 09:00-17:00.

This competition goes beyond a single event; it's a stage for achievement where young people can showcase their skills and strengthen community spirit. Their mission is to make parkour and acrobatic disciplines more accessible, highlighting their benefits while growing this vibrant community together.

Primary News

French Assessments: 20-23 July

As you know, our French programme is organised into three streams: French as a Foreign Language, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Over the past months, placement has been based mainly on continuous assessment. However, this alone is not sufficient to ensure the fairest decisions. We will therefore be conducting a more formal French assessment next week, using a DELF-style format (Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing). This will help us better understand each child’s level and ensure they are placed where they can thrive.

Following the assessment, from August (Term 3), students will be placed in the class that best matches their level and needs. They will remain in this group until next year. You will be informed of any level changes in the CAR 6 report.

These formal assessments will become part of our yearly process, although the exact timing (end of July or end of year) is still being finalised.

Please see the updated timetable below. Time has been extended. Workbooks have been sent home last week to support revision. We encourage you to support your child in preparing, without placing unnecessary pressure: students have been prepared and know what to expect. There will be no usual French classes this week.

French Webinar Feedback

Secondary Art Exhibition Auction Open to Parents

Secondary art students will host an art exhibition at the Hub. As some of the selected artwork will be available for purchase, Primary parents are also invited to participate in the auction, take home beautiful artwork, and support young artists. More information is available at the reception (Hub).

Author Visit and Children's Book Orders: New Beginning Wood

The Lighthouse Library is proud to announce a visit from English author, Chris Elliott.

He will be in Mauritius on Tuesday, 8 September and has chosen to visit Lighthouse to read his “New Beginning Wood" series to Grades 1, 2, and 3.

The books feature cute animal characters, like Henny Hedgehog and Snowy Rabbit, who learn life lessons through their adventures.

Snowy Rabbit - a story about looking at things from other people’s point of view.
Sarah Squirrel and Family - a book about spending time with your family and inclusivity

What's Happening in Secondary?

Secondary Sports Day

Secondary students had Sports Day in the Germain Comarmond Stadium in Bambous. After exuding effort and teamwork, the house Spero was declared winner, while Fidem and Amare came 2nd 3rd place.

Congratulations to the students and for all the people who contribued to make this day a success!

Traffic Flow: Morning, Afternoon and Wednesday Pickup

Reception and Grade 1 Pickup

Parents should enter the gate in the right lane. You should enter the lay-by and pull forward as far as possible for your child to enter your car. Once your child is secured in your vehicle, follow the lay-by and exit the far end to rejoin the right lane of primary traffic. Move to the left lane, turning right, and carefully pass the Grade 2 and 3 loading zone and merge to proceed past the Pavilion to exit at the lower gate.
If your family has siblings in Grade 2 or 3, they will still be picked up with your reception or Grade 1 child.
Grade R parents, as communicated, please drop and go. Only park if you have a meeting with a teacher or if you need to drop off something with a teacher.

Grade 2-3 Pickup

Parents should enter the gate in the right lane. Instead of entering the lay-by, proceed to the roundabout turning right and remaining in the right lane. A new ‘Wednesday only’ loading zone will be located at the end of the Hub parking lot. Once your child is secure, merge into the traffic to proceed past the Pavilion to exit at the lower gate.

Grade 4-6 Pickup

Parents should enter the gate in the left lane. At the roundabout, stay left and proceed behind the secondary to your usual pickup point at the lay-by on the right near the Farm Lab/lower gate and pull forward as far as possible. Once your child is secure in the car, remain in the lay-by and follow vehicles in the lay-by to exit the far end and rejoin the general flow of traffic, and exit campus.

Pick-up at the Hub (for online purchases only): Monday to Friday (08:00 - 15:30 - upon email notification that your order is ready for collection).
Uniform Shop in the Pavilion building (first floor): Monday (08:00 - 12:00), Wednesday (08:00 - 13:30), Friday (08:00 - 12:00).

Please make sure to bring your reservation number in order to collect your purchase at the Hub.

Attendance: Notice of Early Departure

If your child needs to leave campus before the usual dismissal time at short notice and for a valid reason, please call the Hub or send an email to attendance@lighthouse.edu.mu before 13:30 so we can inform your child's teacher. After 14:00, students and teachers may be in different areas (especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we run Sports & Clubs), and messages may not reach them in time. To avoid any confusion, please ensure all transport and arrangements are clearly communicated.

In case of early departure, the parent or responsible party must sign the student out at the Hub.

Health Reminders

If something has changed for your child health wise, please keep us up to date by submitting a new Student Health Form. Otherwise, we will assume all permissions and medical information remain unchanged.

No medications may be kept in student bags! If your child needs to take medication while at school, please fill out this Medication Authorization form and drop the form and medication at the HUB.

First Aid notifications to parents: We do not phone parents for minor first aid incidents at school. You will receive a call or note in the following circumstances:
- A call if your child is sick needs to be sent home
- A call if your child is injured and may require further medical attention.

Fever-Free Policy

Any child who develops a fever should remain at home until they are fever-free for 24hours without the use of fever-reducing medications (such as Paracetamol or Motrin/Ibuprofen).

Why is this necessary? Fever-reducing medication (such as panadol or burofen) can mask symptoms, making a child appear well when they may still be contagious or prone to a relapse.
What defines a fever? For the purposes of this policy, a fever is considered a temperature 37.8°C or higher.

When to Keep Your Child Home:

In addition to the Fever-Free Policy, please consider keeping your child home if they exhibit:

Vomiting or diarrhea( 2+ times) within the last 24 hours.
Too weak or unwell to participate in the school activities.

We understand that keeping a child home can be a challenge for working schedules, but your cooperation is essential in preventing larger outbreaks in the classroom.
