Europe Day held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration' that set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.
FESTA DELL'EUROPA 9 MAGGIO 2023
On 28 and 29 September the staff of the Erasmus project "Citizens in Action" met in Rome for a workshop to coordinate the activities planned in the second year of the project. This event took place at the headquarters of the Vittoria Colonna high school located in the historic center of Rome, and saw the presence of the teachers of the coordinating school, the Liceo Artistico E. Mannucci of Ancona, the Rigas State Gymnazium n.3, the Scoala Gimnaziala n.1 of Micesti of Romania and the Kostantina Manesis of Irakleio, of Athens, together with the representatives of the host school, the Liceo Colonna of Rome.
The meeting was also attended by a representative of the Confine Mondo association of Rome, subcontractor of the project to support the educational activities to be implemented. During the meeting, the guidelines for drafting the text "Let's give voice to Citizens!" were defined. by the one hundred students involved in the project which will collect opinions and questions from citizens of the different geographical areas in which the partner schools are located. Furthermore, on this occasion the staff took charge of the educational and organizational aspects of the European Citizenship trip which will take the students to Brussels next April.
It will be an experience full of meetings with MEPs and European officials which will take students to visit the institutional headquarters and will culminate with the unprecedented Rebirth Ceremony for a renewed awareness of common European citizenship. The most ambitious objective of the workshop was precisely the creation of this Rebirth ceremony for European citizenship, which will take place in the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels for the official delivery of the aforementioned document.
The atmosphere was marked by enthusiasm and a collaborative spirit, in line with mutual belonging to the Union and confirming the importance of the Jean Monnet Action for schools.
We thank the Liceo Colonna for their hospitality and in particular the Director Franca Ida Rossi.

The Erasmus-Jean Monnet project of the Mannucci Art High School for Europe - VIVERE ANCONA
Europe Day, in the presence of Mayor Valeria Mancinelli and with the sponsorship of the European Federalist Movement of Ancona, is the first public action of the Erasmus-Jean Monnet project titled “Citizens in Action”, of which the “Mannucci” Art High School of Ancona is the lead school. The project involves three training entities, CESUE, Euractiv, Confine Mondo, and five secondary schools from four European countries: the Edgardo Mannucci Art High School of Ancona, the Vittoria Colonna High School of Rome, the Manesis High School of Athens, the 1st Gymnasium of Micesti in Romania, and the 3rd Gymnasium of Riga in Latvia. Twenty-five students from each school will be involved from 2022 to 2025 in training activities focused on Europe and active citizenship. Together with their institutions, they will use a digital platform for the first year's training activities, which will focus on the history of the EU, citizenship issues, and European politics. In the second year, they will draft the document “Giving Voice to Citizens” by collecting questions and opinions on the EU from their territories and will present it at the institutional headquarters in Brussels during the "European citizenship journey" in spring 2024.
The travel agenda includes meetings and hearings with officials and Members of the European Parliament, and at the Parliament's headquarters, the Rebirth to European citizenship ceremony, exclusively designed for the students involved in the project. The training course and the experiences they will have will allow them, in the third year of activity, to creatively disseminate the values of common European belonging and attention to the common good in their territories, with particular reference, in the case of Ancona, to cultural, environmental, and urban heritage, for which specific training interventions are planned by Prof. Antonello Alici of the Polytechnic University of Ancona, including the Monument to the Unknown Soldier at Passetto and the figure of the architect Guido Cirilli. The European Commission has widely appreciated the coherent and innovative project framework, developed by Professor Caterina Del Colle, in close collaboration with the involved training entities, the school principal Francesco Maria Orsolini, and the “Mannucci” school's reference teacher Greta Guardati.
Jesi The Art High School travels to Brussels to learn about the European Union
Jesi - At the Mannucci Art Institute, discussions about Europe are happening through the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project.
On December 21st, an interesting meeting took place discussing the reasons why every citizen should be proud to feel European.
This sentiment was shared by several important figures working at the European Institutions in Brussels, from Dr. Stefano Spinaci to the young Dr. Sara Pettinelli, or those serving to promote European ideals such as the representatives of the European Federalist Movement in Ancona, to Professor Monica De Angelis of Administrative Law at the High European Studies Center of Univpm.
A significant moment was the presentation of the map of the European Union by Maria Antonia Sciarrillo. The discussion was not limited to European elections, but it was also an opportunity to spread the actions taken with the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project "Citizens in Action", which will take the students of the Mannucci Art Institute of Jesi to Brussels, in contact with the Institutions and their representatives.
Listening with interest to the guests were the third and fifth-year classes of the Mannucci High School: the former because they are involved in the Jean Monnet Project, the latter as they will soon become active voters in the upcoming European elections from June 6th to 9th.
The students showed particular interest in the travel and work opportunities in Europe detailed by Dr. Sara Pettinelli, originally from Jesi and currently working at the European Parliament.
Among the students of the school was also Anthares Grottaroli who, thanks to the call from the Federalist Movement, was able to participate in the Ventotene conference last September with other young people from all over Europe.

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to introduce educational tools developed to enhance the awareness and skills of young Europeans in active citizenship. All indicators point to the conclusion that Romanians lack the ability, will, and capacity to recognize anti-social attitudes and behaviors, despite the educational system taking steps to promote active citizenship as a general concept.
Considering active citizenship behavior as an extension of a society's beliefs and a vital factor for fostering positive attitudes, the project 'Citizens in Action' — ERASMUS-JMO-2021-OFET-NET101048265 — aims to create user-friendly educational tools for schools that are attractive to students, even at a young age. EU funding, previously limited to universities but now available for schools under the 'Jean Monnet in other fields of Education and Training: Networks' scheme, keeps a research-university component.
3 training courses were created:
- Course on gender equality
- Course on European landscape
- Course on Europe and European institutions
Target group: 20 students from each partner school Partners in the project: schools from Romania, Italy, Latvia and Greece The Romanian partner: Micesti Elementary School, Arges county Activities approved: transnational meetings, intellectual outputs, multiplier events, students’ trip to Bruxelles in 2024. Conclusions: An active citizenship attitude is a necessary condition to achieve growth and social cohesion. In a world often found on the verge of conflicts, the future leaders, whether of communities or countries, need to be raised with positive attitudes and correct values. Jesi The Art High School travels to Brussels to learn about international education and the training of young aware and active citizens
Liceo Artistico Mannucci, with its headquarters in Jesi, celebrates the second anniversary of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet action project entitled "Citizens in Action". This year, the initiative saw the active participation of more than 100 people, including students and companions, of different nationalities (Italians, Greeks, Latvians and Romanians), in an educational journey that touched the most significant European institutions.
The project had a dynamic start with mutual knowledge activities at the European Parliament in Brussels. Here, the debate on issues such as European citizenship saw notable interventions by Fabrizia Panzetti, head of unit for the Mediterranean and the Middle East, and by Project Officer Monika Bochenek, arousing great interest among students and teachers. The second day of activity took place at the Committee of the Regions, where Prof. Ernesto Marcheggiani, university professor in Belgium, discussed the protection of the European landscape, delving into the concept of the term "Landscape" in Europe. The importance of gender issues was then highlighted by Professor Caterina del Colle, who highlighted the importance of language and the need to work for a more mature and aware society of these issues. The culmination of the project was reached on the third day with the "rebirth to European citizenship" ceremony. The students, as active citizens, participated in this significant ceremony with the intervention of MEPs Camilla Laureti and Brando Benifei, who showed great interest and participation.
The school director, Luca Serafini, underlined the importance of the initiative: "This project has laid the foundations for the construction and consolidation of feelings of citizenship, identity and European culture in young citizens and their teachers, thus representing a seed of hope for a future of peace and harmony even beyond European borders".
With this experience, the Liceo Artistico Mannucci, with the project coordinator Prof. Guardati Greta, confirms its commitment to international education and the training of young aware and active citizens.

Abstract. This article aims to present educational tools developed to enhance the awareness and skills of young Europeans in active citizenship. All indicators suggest that Romanians lack the ability, will, and capacity to recognize anti-social attitudes and behaviours, despite efforts by the educational system to promote active citizenship as a general concept. Considering that active citizenship behaviour is an extension of a society's beliefs and a vital factor for fostering positive attitudes, the project "Citizens in Action" — ERASMUS-JMO-2021-OFET-NET-101048265 seeks to create user-friendly educational tools for schools that are attractive to students, even from a young age. EU funding, previously limited to universities, is now available to schools through the Jean Monnet in other fields of Education and Training: Networks scheme, while maintaining a university research component. Here is an overview of some didactic materials created within the project by teachers from an Italian university but designed for younger students in high school and elementary school: three training courses were developed: Course on gender equality, Course on European landscape, Course on Europe and European institutions. Each project partner implemented local lessons based on the guidance received from Italian university teachers. These activities took place both during regular classes and outside school hours, including during the summer holiday. Project partners had the flexibility to organize the lessons according to their specific resources and students' availability. All materials and activities conducted in schools aimed to develop critical thinking and rethink attitudes. Target group: 20 students from each partner school. Project partners: schools from Romania, Italy, Latvia, and Greece. Romanian partner: Micesti Elementary School, Arges County. Approved activities: transnational meetings, intellectual outputs, multiplier events, and a student trip to Brussels in 2024. Moreover, children developed strong principles aligned with European values through international experiences. Thus, 20 students from each partner school participated in an innovative mobility activity alongside students from four other European schools. This activity included a visit and interventions at the European Parliament, presentations of the research conducted by students and teachers involved in the project, and meetings with representatives of the European Parliament, in April 2024. Conclusions. An active citizenship attitude is a necessary condition for achieving growth and social cohesion. In a world often on the brink of conflict, future leaders, whether of communities or nations, must be raised with positive attitudes and correct values.
