Mrs. Carpenter’s English IV

2020-2021

Welcome! I am excited about this year at LHHS and know it will be a great one. This class will have a welcoming environment which promotes student learning through active participation. All of this information and more can also be found on my school website. I know that we will all give 100% effort in order to make this a great learning experience. This year is different than any I have experienced as a teacher in 23 years and I am sure students will feel the same way. We will work hard together to make this class successful!

● Progress reports will be sent home after the third week of each grading period. Parents will be notified if the student is not passing.

● In the event a student makes a failing grade on a major exam including a six weeks test, he/she may be given one make-up test in order to bring the grade up to a maximum grade of 70. We will also be working with novels in book clubs and they will be issued to the student. Students will be responsible for any lost or damaged books.

Late Work Policy:

No late work will be accepted unless extenuating circumstances exist. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss late work with the teacher. The following penalties will be assessed for late work.

1 day late 10 point reduction (start at 90)

2 day late 20 point reduction (start at 80)

3 day late 30 point reduction (start at 70)

No work will be accepted beyond 3 days late, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Make Up Work:

When a student has been present in class, they are expected to complete all assignments accordingly. Make up work is the STUDENTS responsibility! They will collect missed work from their classes’ folder and MUST attend tutorials upon return to learn the skills missed. If a student is absent the day something is due, it is to be completed or turned in the day of your return.

Students shall be granted one day for each day of absence to make up work that was missed. A student who does not make up assigned work within the time allotted by the teacher may receive a grade of zero for the assignment.

If a student is absent the day of a test, but we have covered the test material before the absence they will take the test the day they return to class.

Attendance and Tardy's

Attendance in class everyday ensures that you will be prepared for all skills expected on each assignment. Students will be counted absent after 10 minutes of class per school policy. More than 5 tardy's per class period will result in a referral. Students must have 90% attendance to earn credit for the class.
