"My 3 middle schoolers have absolutely loved being in band at LHMS! It’s definitely one of their top favorite experiences for middle school. They say it feels like a big family who are all using their own talents with their instrument to work together and create something beautiful! It has also taught them to be more disciplined with practicing at home. I love that it has grown their interest & appreciation for music! Mrs. Scroggie and the Band Booster program have been AMAZING helping with specific needs we have had with 3 kids at one time in band. I can’t think of a better program to get your middle schooler plugged in to!"
How do I sign up for Band?
Make sure you put band down as #1 on your choice sheet when you sign up for classes over at LHMS! Then sign up for a time to come by try all the band instruments. We'll work together to find a good fit for you! We can’t wait to meet you!
Do I have to know anything about music to join Band?
Not at all! Almost all of the students who join band have no prior musical knowledge. That’s what we’re here for!
Does Band involve time outside of the school day?
There are not any regularly scheduled practices outside of the school day during the first year of band. Students do have to practice, but our students say it’s the most fun kind of homework!
How do I get an instrument?
We will give you a list of local music stores to look at renting or purchasing an instrument from. We also have a few school-owned instruments for a small rental fee if you feel that money might be an issue! We are happy to work with you.
Can my child be academically successful and be in the LHMS Panther Band?
Of course! Students in music represent the top of the academic scale in school, averaging 68 points higher on SAT exams. Students will also learn skills like self-confidence, coordination, teamwork, problem solving, discipline, and accountability.
Are there any school instruments available?
The school provides a limited number of larger and more expensive instruments, including Oboes, Bassoons, French Horns, Euphoniums and Tubas. We also have a few of the other instruments - finances should never be a reason to NOT do band! Please reach out to us if you feel that getting an instrument might be a problem for your family!
Can my child participate in sports and other activities while taking Band?
Absolutely! Many of our band students are involved in athletics, dance, cheer, yearbook, choir, art, theater, and other activities. Many of our band members are the star athletes at LHMS as well as leaders in all academics! We want to encourage students to explore all of their interests at this age, and we work with their coaches and teachers to make sure they are able to do it all.
