Choir classes are generally separated by gender in middle school. This is due to selection of music, vocal ranges, and voice changes.
Do you offer voice lessons?
We do not currently voice lessons through our department. Every Choir class is a voice lesson! Check back for more information for this may change.
Is my child required to purchase a choir t-shirt?
Every student in choir is required to purchase a choir t-shirt. Choir t-shirts are required wear any time there is a choir event on or off campus. This is for identification of choir students / unified look on the risers during informal performances. Choir t-shirts can be purchased at the beginning of the year from the GoGandy store located on the home page of the Choir Website.

Are concerts required?
Yes! All choir concerts and performances are mandatory and taken as a test grade. Choir performances are part of the choir TEKS for middle school and the school curriculum from the State of Texas. Any changes or additions in calendar dates will be emailed to parents and placed on the choir website. All schedule conflicts will be handled on an individual basis and ahead of the concert date. Only school related conflicts will be excused.
What do I do if my child absolutely cannot make a concert?
There are no make-up assignments for choir concerts. Sick children, family emergencies, or school related conflicts will not be penalized (if you did not come to school please do not come to the concert sick). If you have to miss a concert for any other reason, documentation is needed in the form of an email from a parent or guardian with a valid reason of not being able to attend. This must be sent in advance of a performance, and acceptance of this reason is at the discretion of the director. Again, school related conflicts, family emergencies, and illness are the only reasons that concert attendance would be excused immediately.
Is there an end of year trip for the choir?
Yes! There will be an end of year trip for 6th grade choir as well at 7th/8th grade choir. More information will be passed out during class, sent over email, and included in our newsletters. Both trips will be divided into installments for families who need financial assistance.
Additional financial assistance will require contacting your choir director. We are more than willing to work with all families who need additional financial assistance.
