Do you know why dancers wear "stage makeup"?
The stage lights are so bright, that without some makeup, the dancer's face will appear washed out.
Therefore, we recommend the following stage makeup:
Eyeshadow and mascara (helps the dancer not appear "sleepy" on stage). Choose browns and apply a darker shade in the crease of the eyelid. Use your parental discretion with mascara. A light coat works great for the younger dancers (but you know your child best...if it's not worth the fight or you don't feel comfortable, skip it!). Older dancers, a few coats of black mascara or false eyelashes work great!
Lipstick (red or dark pink) and blush too!
Optional makeup for our older dancers include: foundation and eyeliner.
Please remember, the reason for "stage makeup" is to allow the dancer to truly shine and be seen all the way from the back row. The stage lights are bright and look great, but can wash out the face without stage makeup applied.

MID-PONYTAIL: Dancers in all classes EXCEPT 6-8 ballet. To do this, simply:
Pull all your hair back into a ponytail at the middle of your head.
Secure with a hairband THAT MATCHES YOUR HAIR COLOR-do not use a bright colored hair tie.
Make sure hair is slicked back smoothly. Spray with hairspray to get rid of any fly-aways.
Attach any accessories that came with your costume. Use bobby pins to make sure accessory is secure. Cross the bobby pins in an "X" shape to secure accessories.
BUN: Dancers in 6-8 ballet class ONLY. To do this, simply:
Ask us to do it for you! Just kidding...it really isn't that difficult. Here are some tips.
Use a "bun kit"-follow the directions on the box.
Go "old school" and do as follows:
Start with a slicked back ponytail
Twist the ponytail until it starts to corkscrew around itself.
Secure with another hair tie and hairpins (or bobbypins).
Then use a hairnet and wrap over your bun multiple times to hold down any little hairs popping out of your bun.
Use HAIRPINS (they work better in buns than bobby pins do) to secure the bun to your head.
Spray with hairspray and attach any hair accessories with bobby pins.
