Every year the alumni of schools all over America come back to their hometowns to watch the homecoming football game and ceremony. The homecoming game encourages alumni to come, enjoy a football game at their high school and reminisce about their high school years and memories. It’s a tradition that is important to many community members every year. This year’s homecoming at Liberty High School took place on October 2nd 2020.
Going to the homecoming game is a tradition that a lot of alumni love to go to every year. Each person likes going to the game for different reasons and has a different experience during the game. Ron Pruett stated that he goes to homecoming to, “Watch the game, and watch people’s reactions.”
Alumni Matthew Ledgerwood enjoys the game for different reasons. Since he is a recent graduate, he played with most of the players on the field. Ledgerwood stated what he likes most about going to the homecoming game is, “To watch my brothers in action on the field.”
The homecoming game always brings a lot of nostalgia and reminiscing for the alumni that come to the game. The alumni sit in the stands and watch the game, breath the crisp night air, hear the people cheering in the stands, the bells ringing every touchdown, and watch the homecoming ceremony and remember their homecomings and the memories they had with it.
Alumni of the class of 2020, Matthew Ledgerwood, stated that his favorite memory of homecoming was, “Getting out of school half a day [and] knowing that I was about to kick some tail.” Being on the football field and playing the game was his favorite part of homecoming.
Alumni, Sandra Frost, is now a teacher at Liberty High School. Mrs. Frost’s memories of homecoming that she enjoyed were all after the game. Mrs. Frost said, “I loved the homecoming dance after the game.” Her memories were made dancing the night away with her friends.
With last years blow out against Mountain Grove, the crowd expected a similar result but instead it was an intense nail biter. Sandra Frost stated confidently that, “Liberty is going to win obviously, 32-15.”
Ron Pruett predicted that the score would be, “27-21” Liberty with the win. He was predicting a Liberty win that was realistic.
Matthew Ledgerwood had a different prediction than the rest, saying that the game would be closer but still a win, with a score of “22-21”.
The alumni overall appreciated the experience of the homecoming ceremony and watching the Liberty Eagles, “kick some tail,” as Matthew Ledgerwood would say.
