Associates can meet anytime they need help by FIRST communicating face-to-face, via CANVAS Conversations (Inbox), then LCSS email as a last resort.

TIP: Ask the program specialist how you can be paired as an observer for your associate's course! Canvas parent observers can contact me through Canvas Conversations (Inbox).
Platforms Associate Should be Familiar With: Canvas Student, Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chrome, Meet, Sites), Canva. Students will be learning Adobe Illustrator and if time allows - Adobe Photoshop as well.,
Optional Materials: Headphones/Earbuds/Airpods, Stylus (when the program specialist allow), Charger w/ cord (charging station available in class), and an OPEN MIND.
Handouts/Worksheets: ALL curriculum and materials will be uploaded to Canvas Learning Management System. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Teaching and Learning Methods:
Included, but are not limited to lectures, discussions, demonstrations, audiovisuals, group activities, design scenarios, internet resources, print labs, field trips, internships, movies, and guest speakers.
Certifications:
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION
Associates who complete this pathway will be taking the Adobe Illustrator Professional Certification exam. This is a 50 minute exam which has them complete multiple choice questions along with tasks to complete in Adobe Illustrator.
Students who pass the End of Pathway Assessment (EOPA) will receive a professional certification in Adobe Illustrator. They will also be given a day at the movies towards the end of the semester as a reward!
Grading and Evaluation:
The student and/or parent/guardian should monitor his/her grades by accessing the online portal for PowerSchool provided through the LCSS website. It is your responsibility to keep up with your grades! You will be evaluated as follows:
Classwork: The class is structured to teach time management. Use your time well. You are responsible for how you use the time. You are responsible for learning the material. Pay attention, listen, and participate. Use the allotted class time well. While in class, Graphic Design is the only subject area you are allowed to work on (unless told otherwise).
Exams and Projects: There are frequent skill demonstrations, quizzes, and projects. All topics and units are comprehensive, anything previously covered is still fair game! Your goal is to master the content in working knowledge, not memorize it just enough for an exam. Graphic Design Skills demonstrations through Adobe Illustrator are designed to demonstrate mastery of the content and software, and will apply knowledge or skill by demonstration and project creation. In addition, associates will also be expected to demonstrate mastery of the software and the elements and principles at 100% in the classroom and lab on a daily basis. Skills will be graded on participation, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Final projects for the pathway will be an online portfolio which consists of your projects, information about yourself as well as your resume and cover letter.
Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive and is REQUIRED for everyone. It counts as 10% of your final grade. THERE ARE NO EXEMPTIONS.
Computer & Print Labs: We will participate and learn to understand and apply learned concepts in many exercises over the semester. This means you will receive multiple opportunities to explore both the design and printing side of Graphic Design through design briefs and creation and printing. At times there will be group work where you work as a design team to create your given design brief.
GeorgiaBEST:
LCCA uses the Georgia Department of Labor (GaDOL) GeorgiaBEST workplace ethics rubric to score our associates in their ability to demonstrate the skills necessary to “Get a Job, Do a Job and Keep a Job.” This assesses the associates in categories such as discipline and character; attitude & respect; attendance and social media ethics. Associates will receive this rubric on the first day of class and will be asked to self-rate. Associates will then be rated WEEKLY on workplace ethics using this rubric and conference with their program specialist on their score. The final assessment counts as 25% of the associate’s 9-week grade. Associates who score 25 or better on their final assessment will receive a GeorgiaBEST certificate for mastering our workplace criteria.
Advancement: Advancement to Advanced Graphic Design will be determined by your classroom and lab participation, course grade, conduct, attendance, attitude, and program specialist recommendation.
Attendance & Make-Up Work:
Classroom attendance is integral to academic achievement and the beginning of professional development. Being absent can leave the associate behind in content and can affect the outcome of planned goals.
Regarding absences: Excused and unexcused, the students should refer to pages 15-16 of the Student Information and Code of Conduct handbook.

Associates are responsible for obtaining and completing the makeup work satisfactorily and within the time specified by the program specialist.
It is the responsibility of the associate to manage his/her make-up work.
Pre-assigned work and projects will be due no more than 3 days after an EXCUSED absence. UNEXCUSED absence exceptions will be handled on an individual/case-by-case basis.
Anytime you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. Check your Canvas Course and Announcements Daily. Always be in class if you are not seriously ill & make appointments for when you are out of school or after school.
An associate who does not make up assigned work within the time allotted by the program specialist will receive a grade of "0" for the assignment.
Canvas LMS will automatically assign a grade of "50" for assignments that are not turned in by the designated due date and time. This is your opportunity to do something about your grade.
If I see EFFORT, I will implement Mrs. Pope's Philosophy: The Case Against "0".
50 is the new 0. More mathematically fair. Allow for redemption. Accurate reflection of associate knowledge. MOTIVATION.
Assignments not made up within a specified time frame will be converted to a permanent "0"
There are no extra credit opportunities offered in this course. Do not ask.
Late Work: RESPECT MY TIME!
Program specialist designates due date and time for assignments (beginning of the class period, end of the class period, designated time of day, etc.)
Program specialists may assign a late penalty to any assignment based on timelines previously communicated to associates.
Standards for Work: All assignments and work quality should indicate that you are an advanced pathway associate.
This includes but is not limited to work that is:
Scholarly
Proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation (very important in graphic design!)
Evidence-based writing and speaking
Authentic, original
Your work should be in your own words - no AI. You can use AI to help you. Use it as a tool, but do not copy it word for word. It should be written by YOU, and only YOU.
Craftsmanship
In graphic design we use strong attention to detail, accuracy, and effort.
Aligned or exceeds expectations of grade-level standards
Class Procedures and Expectations:
Timeliness: When the bell rings, be in your seat and work on the "Bellringer". We will begin as soon as the announcements are finished. There is a zero-tolerance policy for being tardy and it will affect your GeorgiaBEST grade.
Beginning of class - First, Agenda/Canvas Announcements There will be class starter work (Bellringer) attached to the Canvas Announcement AND listed on the Agenda on the whiteboard DAILY. Please take your seat and begin the bellringer (class starter).
Signing In/Out: Scan QR Code when leaving and upon return. Submit form. Limit 2 associates out of class at a time.
First Ten: No associate may leave the classroom in the first ten minutes, ten minutes AFTER break, or the last ten minutes of class
End of Class – Cleaning up.
The bell rings 5 minutes before the end of class. This is when you are to begin cleaning up, straightening your area, saving your work and logging out of your computer. Your chair should be pushed back in and your area should be tidy.
You are dismissed by the program specialist and not the bell. DO NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR! REMAIN SEATED and prepare for the final dismissal announcement.
Courteousness: Show respect to others. Once class begins, talking should only be to answer a question or participate in class discussions or group work. DO NOT TALK WHILE THE PROGRAM SPECIALIST IS SPEAKING. We will have visitors during the semester, please be polite, respectful, and courteous. Being on the computer or any other device once the class has begun is considered disrespectful and discourteous behavior and will result in points being deducted from your GeorgiaBEST score.
Class Discussions: RAISE your hand to be recognized. DO NOT INTERRUPT!
Coming to Attention: When you hear the bell/sound, STOP what you are doing, FACE the program specialist, and WAIT for instructions.
Preparedness: When you come to this class, plan ahead and have everything you need. You do not need your Chromebooks in this class, however if you need it charged, there is a charging station in this classroom.
No personal devices are allowed in this class.DO NOT bring your iPad from home. All class assignments and activities are to be completed on the computers in this lab.
Safety: DO NOT enter the print lab area the EXPRESS PERMISSION of the program specialist.
Drills are mandatory. The program specialist will LEAD, and associates will FOLLOW. The program specialist will be the first out the door, the last person should close the door. Line up going IN and OUT. We are a TEAM!
Academia: You have chosen to be here as part of this Pathway/Program of Study (POS). I will treat you as a professional. I expect professionalism in return. With this in mind, Academic Dishonesty will not be tolerated. Plagiarism or cheating will result in a grade of zero.

Personal Belongings: While at LCCA, place ALL personal belongings on the counter to the right once you enter the doorway. We keep all bags and personal belongings out of the computer lab. You will be provided time at the end of class to collect your belongings.
Electronics/Professional Courtesy: Any electronics, other than LCSS issued, should be silent, PUT AWAY in their designated place, and not in use. Associates are REQUIRED to place their phones in the YONDR pouch. It should not be visable in this classroom AT ANY TIME. Failure to follow the rules will result in being written up, in addition to dropping your Georgia Best Workplace Ethics grade.
FOOD AND DRINKS: There is NO FOOD or DRINKS allowed in the computer lab at ANY TIME. NO EXCEPTIONS. It is important that you respect the lab rules. Drinks are allowed on the counter tops and tables when you enter the classroom. When you need something to drink, you may get up to get some of your drink. FOOD is NOT ALLOWED in this classroom at ANY TIME. No exceptions! Associates will have a break in the bistro area where they can purchase snacks and drinks several days during the week. You must finish all food in the bistro/break area during scheduled break times.
Consequences of Behavior:
Verbal warning: For the first offense, the program specialist will correct the behavior, and the associate will receive a verbal warning.
Conference 1:1 (Program Specialist and Associate): For a second offense, the program specialist will schedule a conference with the associate.
Parent Conference: For the third offense, the program specialist will schedule a conference with associates AND parent(s)/guardian.
Disciplinary Referral: For a fourth offense, the program specialist will issue a disciplinary referral
