Welcome to Honors World Studies
This course will provide a comprehensive study of modern world history from 1700 to the present. Among the topics students will investigate are the Rise of Democracy, the Industrial Revolution, and Imperialism. In addition to learning the history of this era, students learn basic geography, communication skills and critical thinking skills that will be used throughout their high school education. Students will be expected to complete outside reading and homework assignments, and do at least one research paper or project each quarter. Students must participate actively in class discussions and debates.
Prerequisite: Students must fill out an application for this course that includes a teacher recommendation, a skills test, and have earned an Instructional Grade Equivalency that is at or above grade level on the STAR Reading Assessment (or similar assessment for new students). Summer reading assignment is required with an essay/test due on the first day of school.
