Course Placement & Guidance
Placements
Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, students who MEET or EXCEED standards on their spring state assessment will be automatically enrolled into the next most rigorous level of course work.
Automatic enrollment is the practice of assigning students into the next most rigorous level of advanced coursework offered by the district if the student meets or exceeds State standards (or College Board SAT Suite Benchmarks) in English language arts, social science, mathematics, or science on a State assessment administered under 105 ILCS 5/2-3.64a-5.
These can be honors, dual credit or Advanced Placement courses
As partners in the course registration process, parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss course options as outlined in the Program of Studies.
Course recommendations and elective selection form will be sent home in early January.
Parents/guardians are notified of the courses their student has registered for, including those in which their student was automatically placed.
A parent/guardian whose student was automatically accelerated may decline that placement via Google form.

Visit the Program of Studies to review the freshman electives and note your selections (1st choice, 2nd choice, etc.).
In January, review the course placement recommendation form provided by the school, provide your requested electives, and return it to us by February 1.
Student schedules are finalized in spring, with course confirmations sent home by May. Actual schedules are given to students after fees are paid and medical forms are received by the Nurse’s Office.
Electives
Students will generally have between a half credit (one semester) and 2.5 credits of electives as freshmen. The number varies based upon the course recommendations.
SOME colleges require two years of World Language study.
SOME colleges require one credit of Fine Arts study.
ALL colleges want to see a transcript that has both balance and success.
Student Schedules
Lemont started teaching in a block schedule in the mid 1990s.
Students take four classes each day, and alternate between a Gold (G) and Blue (B) day throughout the year.
Integrated Math I GB meets on both Gold and Blue days, but covers the same content as Integrated Math I. Marching Band also meets on Gold and Blue days during the fall semester.
Semester finals are usually given in December and May. New courses start in January. Class periods and teachers may change at the semester.
The average class size is 25 for core classes, and 30 is the maximum in most cases.
Students take eight credits each year, earning 32 before graduation. Most other schools only allow for 20-24 credits.
Busing
Bus schedules are finalized AFTER August registration when families finalize their transportation plans.
Please click here for busing information.
Students who are involved in swimming, golf, bowling, or any of the sports that compete at the Bell Road complex, have access to an Activity Bus to these sites after school. Students who utilize the Activity Bus are responsible for transportation home from these sites.
New Student Day
On the first day of school, freshmen, transfer students, and the Link Crew Leaders have the building to themselves.
Students do team building activities in large and small groups, tour the building, and meet their first period teacher (whom they will see that following morning).
Link Crew leaders stay in touch with their freshmen throughout the year to monitor the transition and serve as peer leaders.
Supports for the Freshman Transition
Link Crew Leaders - Older students in sports and clubs
Student Services - Counselors, Social Workers, Deans, Nurse, School Psychologists, School Resource Officer, & Director of Special Education Services
National Honor Society offers Peer Tutoring
Teachers are available before/after school for assistance, and we have a help center called “The CAVE” (Center for Academic Vision & Excellence) open before, during and after school.
Skyward / Google / Staying Connected
Skyward is our student management system and is used for grades, attendance, discipline, etc. There is an app for that, and the website can be accessed by visiting the school's website, www.lhs210.net.
Teachers post information in Google Classroom. Assignments, calendars, notes, videos, etc. all are available.
Emailing teachers is the best route to start a conversation. Please visit the Staff Directory to find addresses for any staff members.
Lemont High School does not do formal parent teacher conferences. Any conference can be scheduled with a teacher at any time.
Getting Involved
Involvement is critical to success:
Studies show that involved students have higher GPAs.
Kids who are involved report feeling more connected to school than those who are not involved.
Involvement helps with job applications and college applications.
Activities and Athletic opportunities exist for a variety of talents and skills. If you can’t find what you love, you probably can create it when you get to LHS!
