SAVE-THE-DATES: SOL Testing Schedule
The SOLs are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned and what areas they may still need support in. Please partner with us by encouraging your student(s) to do their best on each assessment. Our goal is to help students reach their full potential, and an accurate SOL score is an important data point in that mission.
All testing begins at 7:30am. Please avoid scheduling appointments on testing days and help your child arrive at school on time.
March 24: Integrated Reading and Writing (IRW- 8th Grade Only)
May 6: Reading 7 and 8
May 12: Physical Science (8th grade only)
May 14: Mathematics
More information about these assessments can be found on the webpage: SOL Tests in Elementary and Middle Schools (https://www.fcps.edu/node/42716). The Grade Level Tests webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/50045) outlines the division testing schedule for required assessments at each grade.
Rising 9th Grade Transition Field Trip
On Monday, April 13, our 8th graders attending Herndon, South Lakes, or Skyview High Schools will visit their respective high school. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to learn about high school life and student activities. Students received a permission slip this week and should return it to their Flex teacher by Wednesday, March 18. If you have any questions about this trip or your child’s high school placement, please contact their LHMS school counselor.

A little about me: I am a Mom of 3, with one son currently in 7th grade at LHMS this year. I am also the LHMS Family Liaison and thoroughly enjoy my role working with families. I have held the position of either PTA President, Treasurer or Secretary in the past at the 4 different school districts I have been a part of, so I am very familiar with being on the board and the responsibility that comes with it. I believe the PTA plays an important role in the experience students and their families have at their school, and with teamwork, we can make their experience an amazing one.
I’m excited about this school year and intend to support all the fun events for our students, families, and teachers and show our community Panther Pride!
Sincerely,
Janessa Valentine

As a member of the National PTA, Virginia PTA (VAPTA), and the Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA), we have a shared mission: to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. We also support the Fairfax County Special Education PTA (SEPTA). Every child. One voice.
Reach out if you would like to talk about where you can fit it in. You can find me at president@lhmspta.com. We look forward to seeing you in the hallways of Hughes and helping our Panther POWER shine through!
Time: Attend our monthly PTA meetings, make a Costco run for teacher breakfast items, secure a speaker, or help deliver spirit wear.
Talent: Are you good with web design? Can you organize a PTA closet? Are you gifted in other languages to help our non-English speaking families? Do you have a knack for reviewing financials? Your talents can help expand the PTA’s skill set and reach.
Treasure: If you become a member or simply make a donation to the PTA, these funds help our programs thrive. Do you know of a local business that can contribute? Maybe your employer is generous to non-profit organizations. We graciously accept all help.
