The School Bank @ Ribblesdale
'The idea of the School Bank came from a visit to Damesfield Primary School as part of the EdTech Hubs programme, and we saw their School Bank in action and the impact it could have on the young people'
Paul Edge
Deputy Headteacher - Ribblesdale School
'We have got this contactless 'Ribbits' card where we transfer our house points into 'Ribbits'. We go to our school shop and we can use contactless with this card and buy our item. If you have lots of house points, they can be transferred into 'Ribbits' for you to spend or to maybe save up. If you save for a long time, you will gain interest every month, just like a real bank would'

'The Ribblesdale School Bank is a fun way for children to treat themselves after doing great work at school. We turn our house points into what we call 'Ribbits'. With 'Ribbits', we can buy anything we want, from chocolate to fruits, sweets, snacks, calculators'

'It allows me to open up a world that my students wouldn't normally get the opportunity to do by working with a live client and a live brief. I aim to do is to use the technology that we actually have in school, so Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and ask the pupils to design the imagery and the creative side of the business of the school bank so that it is appealing to young adults'
Miss E Schnacke
Teacher of Technology - Ribblesdale School
'When I first heard about the banking opportunity, I thought it would be great for the pupils to come up with a strategic plan. So we got lots of discussion going about what the rewards could be for pupils, how they would actually implement that, and then how the operational side would go, how customer service operates, what good things and what bad things take place. So it really did give us a talking point in lessons'

'From the design technology perspective, we're looking at designing a kiosk for the school bank. This will be a topic we'll cover with year 10s, and it will introduce skills they already are used to using. So we're looking at doing a 2D design kiosk using our laser cutter to actually cut out the material for the design and interacting with our graphics team so we can design the graphics for that as well'
Mr S Sheen
Teacher of Technology - Ribblesdale School
'So in order to make sure that pupils could relate this to the real world, what we've done is we've made sure that our interest rate that we give is related to the Bank of England interest rate. So there will be changes throughout the year, depending on whether the bank has increased the interest rate or decreased it. And by doing that, it again gives us a talking point with pupils where we can discuss how that would actually affect them in real life.'
