Exeter College has a strong emphasis on digital transformation, the College offers a varied curriculum for school leavers and adult learners and is consistently one of the top performing colleges in the country.
Exeter College has long been an advocate of the use of digital within teaching and learning. However, our journey of digital transformation took a leap forward with the formation of the college’s Digital Strategy Group, which is chaired by a member of our Senior Leadership Team and Deputy CEO. The group brings together staff from across the college to share best practice and innovations, it also always allows the college to keep digital transformation on the agenda. Along with this we have invested in innovation by appointing a Digital Innovation and Engagement Manager and several Advanced Digital Practitioners.
This kind of investment and support has enabled us to continue to develop as a college and we are proud to be one of just a handful of colleges in the country to be named as a ‘Microsoft Showcase College’, testament to our investment in digital Teaching and Learning.
The College’s commitment to increasing online learning opportunities meant it was well prepared for the Government’s lockdown of the country in March, even if the leap to 100% online learning was taking place a little sooner than anticipated.
Initially our biggest challenge was the confidence of staff to use technology to continue their day to day roles, this along with the availability of hardware were issues we had to work to overcome. In order to solve this, we have produced a range of resources and guidance for staff detailing best practice for working from home and using digital technology.
Further to this during our Summer Staff Development Week, we will launch our Lift (Live, Interaction, Feedback Rich, Teaching) Campaign. The framework provides essential resources and training for teaching staff that we believe is essential to continue delivering in a blended learning environment.
Exeter College is looking to work with any school or college who is looking to make better use of the digital tools at their fingertips. With expertise in the Microsoft and iDEA scheme, we can support schools and colleges to make the most out of Microsoft products to provide inspirational teaching digitally.
