In this class we cannot tolerate bias-based language and behavior related to a person’s religion, politics, family cultural traditions, family structure, age, race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, appearance, body shape or size, physical or mental abilities, level of wealth, or any other factor that makes someone seem different.
If bullying, harassment, intimidation, or other forms of disrespectful or inappropriate behavior occur during class, your classroom teacher(s) will intervene and there may be disciplinary consequences.
In a classroom, cell phones may only be used for the learning process, as determined by the classroom teacher. If cell phones are not integral to the classroom learning, they should be stored in the appropriate phone caddy. The phone that a student puts in the caddy or is asked to surrender to the deans must be their primary, working phone. Any student who puts a secondary device such as an old, non-working, or burner phone in the classroom caddy while keeping their primary phone will automatically be subject to detentions. Upon failure to follow the school cell phone procedures, the educator shall direct the student to the Deans’ office.
The dean will remove the phone from the student’s possession for the remainder of the day. The student should pick up the cell phone in the Deans’ office at the end of the day. Repeated offenses will result in further consequences and/or a parent/guardian meeting.
Students may not use a smartphone/watch or other recording device in any manner that disrupts the educational environment or violates a teacher’s classroom policy or the rights of others, including using the device to take photographs in locker rooms or bathrooms, cheat, or otherwise violate student conduct rules. Prohibited conduct specifically includes, but is not limited to, creating, sending, sharing, viewing, receiving or possessing an indecent visual depiction of one’s self or another person using a computer, electronic communication device, or cell phone.
Use during after-school activities and athletics may be prohibited or restricted by the activity supervisor or coaches. Students are personally responsible for the security of their cell phones. The District assumes no responsibility for theft, loss or damage of such devices.
This class will follow the school’s academic integrity policy as outlined in the Student & Family Handbook. All students are expected to meet the standards of academic honesty and integrity.
Academic dishonesty refers to cheating, copying, plagiarizing, or representing the work of others, including human and artificial intelligence sources, as your own through verbal, written, graphic, electronic, or other means. It is a violation of this policy and will result in consequences.
If a student engages in academic dishonesty, they may receive one or a combination of the following consequences, depending on the nature of the infraction:
Zero for the assignment and/or assessment
Partial credit for a resubmitted, original assignment and/or assessment
Detention or an alternative to In-School Suspension
When academic dishonesty occurs, the following actions will take place:
The teacher will contact the student to inform them of the academic dishonesty and the intended consequences
The teacher will contact the student’s parents/guardians to inform them of the academic dishonesty and the intended consequences
The teacher will notify the student’s dean that academic dishonesty occurred
The dean will document the academic dishonesty
Engaging in academic dishonesty can also compromise a student's participation in and acceptance to programs and positions of trust and responsibility within LFHS (e.g., class office, club office, National Honor Society, scholarship consideration, and other recognitions).
All cases of academic dishonesty are documented and filed at LFHS.
At Lake Forest High School, the work you submit must be your own and show your thinking, effort, and voice.
AI tools such as Gemini, ChatGPT, Grammarly, Claude, MagicSchool, or similar platforms may only be used when explicitly approved by your teacher for a specific assignment.
When AI use is allowed, you must follow the assignment’s AI usage level (Green, Yellow, or Red) and provide a proper citation, or as stated by the teacher.
All written work must be completed in the Google Doc provided by your teacher through Schoology, on your school-issued device, while logged into your LFHS Google Account. This allows your teacher to review the revision history and verify the originality of your work.
If your work is completed outside the assigned document, has no visible revision history, or is pasted in from another source without permission, it may not be accepted.
Your teacher may ask you to explain your process, show drafts or notes, or demonstrate your understanding at any time.
Failure to follow AI usage guidelines or academic honesty rules will be treated as academic dishonesty, which may result in:
A grade of zero
Parent/guardian contact
Referral to the dean
Formal documentation in your student record (as outlined in the LFHS Student & Family Handbook)
Assignment or Schoology Version
The work you turn in must be your own. It should show your ideas, effort, and voice.
AI tools (Gemini, ChatGPT, Grammarly, Claude, MagicSchool, etc.) can only be used if I have approved them for this specific assignment.
If AI is approved, follow the AI usage level (Green, Yellow, or Red) listed for this assignment and cite the tool you used.
Do all your work in the Google Doc I provided for this assignment, on your school-issued device, while logged into your LFHS Google Account.
If you work in a different document, paste in text from somewhere else without permission, or your revision history is missing, the work may not be accepted.
If I have questions about your work, I suggest you explain your process, show drafts, or walk me through your thinking.
All work is expected by the due date. For daily assignments, if you turn it in one class day late, it will be 50% off. After that, the grade is a 0. For longer-term assignments, if you turn the major assignment in one class day late, the grade is automatically reduced by 10%. If you turn in the major assignment two days late, the grade is automatically reduced by 20%. This continues to 50%. After three weeks, the grade will remain a zero.
If you have questions or concerns about your grade on an individual assignment or assessment, you are encouraged to arrange a meeting with us to better understand your performance and recommendations going forward. Grades on individual assignments or assessments will not be reconsidered at the end of the grading period.
Please do not ask to round grades or reconsider earlier assessments at the end of the grading periods. PowerSchool already rounds grades. All questions and concerns about assessments should occur when the assessment is returned. Teachers review all final grades to ensure that they are reflective of the students’ comprehensive understanding of the required learning.
Ideally, academic issues should be resolved between the student and the teacher. If an academic issue arises, it should through the sequence outlined in the Communications Flowchart.
This class will follow the school's attendance policy as outlined in the Student & Family Handbook. Teachers do not have to accept missed school work due to an unexcused absence.
