Standardized Testing Information

• Many colleges are test-score optional and use other criteria to determine a student's admissibility.  Students do not need to send their scores to these schools.

• Colleges will accept either the SAT or the ACT when a score is required.

• To be efficient, we need to determine which test is stronger for each student.

• Students take the PSAT in October and a full ACT in April through LFHS

• If they take an ACT earlier in Junior year (by Dec. or Feb.), we can compare their results and focus on whichever test is best for the student.

• We recommend 2-3 tests taken by Oct. of senior year.

• In the fall of senior year, your counselor can help determine which scores to send with a student's application.

• Start with a prep book with full-length practice tests. 

• Take the free SAT/ACT tutoring offered by LFHS (this info is emailed to the junior families).

• College Board and ACT prep online.

• Explore the grapevine of tutors, courses or online prep materials that are available to your student.
