Grade 8
Communicable Diseases- How sexually transmitted diseases (Including HIV/AIDS) are spread, prevented, and treated. Discuss, compare and contrast contraceptive methods and their use in preventing communicable diseases.
Growth & Development- How pregnancy occurs- physical changes in the mother and fetus during conception through birth. Describe pregnancy testing, the signs of pregnancy and pregnancy options. Identify prenatal practices that support a healthy pregnancy.
Families- Realize the physical/psychological and financial responsibilities of parenting. Predict challenges that may be faced by adolescent parents and their families. Identify resources to assist with parenting.
Relationships – Compare and contrast the characteristics of a healthy relationship and unhealthy relationships. Differentiate between love and intercourse and the different types of intercourse. Identify factors that lead to sex trafficking (including internet safety), warning signs, state and federal laws related to sex trafficking and analyze how personal attributes, resilience, refusal skills and protective factors support mental and emotional health and how they can help to decrease trafficking. Identify factors that are important in deciding whether and when to engage in sexual behaviors. Identify factors that can affect the ability to give/perceive consent to sexual activity. Discuss different forms of dating and explain the role of dating in personal growth. Differentiate between gender identity, expression and sexual orientation (LGBTQIA +)
Grade 7
Growth & Development- The anatomy and physiology of the male/female body. Discussion of body parts, external and internal and their functions, and the natural variations that exist in human bodies. Identify how genetics and family history can influence personal health.
Pregnancy/Parenting- Discuss the signs and symptoms of pregnancy. Describe the potential impact of medicines, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs on prenatal and postnatal development. Summarize the stages of fetal development from fertilization to birth.
Relationships- Demonstrate communication skills that will support healthy relationships. Analyze how relationships evolve over time, focusing on changes in friendship, family, dating and lifetime commitments such as marriage.
Neglect and Abuse- Identify the types of abuse and the patters of power and control in abuse. Explain what partner violence is. Summarize the effects of child abuse. List forms of sibling abuse and elder abuse. Identify strategies for preventing and responding to abuse.
Sexuality – Discuss the influence of hormones, heredity, nutrition and environment on the physical, social and emotional changes that occur at puberty. Differentiate between the different types of intercourse.
Grade 4
Unit 5: Safety
Lesson Objectives:
Identify the different types of abuse
Know how to find a trusted adult and identify who those trusted adults are
Identify one's right to privacy
Practice refusal and communication skills
Identify strategies a person could use to call attention to or leave an uncomfortable or dangerous situation, including bullying, and sexual abuse.

List ways in which HIV is and is not transmitted
Practice good personal hygiene skills to avoid communicable diseases
Identify and practice habits to keep yourself and others healthy
