Welcome to 5th Grade ELA! We are going to build on our skills from 4th grade to become more motivated and successful readers, writers, and thinkers!
Week of 1/5: We are continuing Unit 3 in our curriculum. In reading, we will be focusing on comparing and contrasting elements of drama, poetry, and prose with an emphasis on poetry this week. Students should also complete their daily writing log Monday-Thursday in Google Classroom.
For word study this week, students will learn about possessive pronouns (should be a review from 1st-4th grade). In addition, we will begin word study set 7. Students will focus on the suffixes -ist, -ence, -ance, and -ize. A quiz on these possessive pronouns, suffixes, and words associated with the suffixes will be announced closer to the quiz date and a study guide will be provided.
Students in AGP are also focusing on argumentative writing.
Please be sure that your child has their composition notebooks for reading and writing.
