Catalog Description
This musical performance based class is an introduction to the many styles of guitar playing. Students will be exposed to the playing techniques and thought processes required to make them them a versatile guitarist. They will learn first position chords and melodies, introductory blues or power-chords, and proper left-hand placement and technique. Students will also learn right-hand pick and finger style approaches for melodies and accompaniment. The main focus of the course is to expose students to a ensemble or group playing experience.
Equipment Policy
We will provide students with their own guitar to practice on and play at school. It is not required for students to own a guitar and transport the instrument to and from school, although students are encouraged to purchase their own guitar to use at home to practice and to help keep up with the progress of the class. Guitars can be purchased from local music shops. Purchasing guitars on-line is not suggested. All students will be thoroughly instructed in procedures for proper use and maintenance of their assigned school guitars. Regarding the use of guitars at school, repairs to instruments and the replacement of instruments that are the result of negligence by a student are the responsibility of the student.
Grading Procedure
Because this class is taught in a group setting daily rehearsals create the environment in which learning will take place.
