ABOUT ME
MRS. ALISHA PALMER
HELLO FAMILIES!
I have a degree in Art Education from Brigham Young University with a certification to teach grades K-12. I have been teaching art for over 20 years, many of those years in various schools in District 5. This is my first year at CIS and I am thrilled to be here! I have 4 daughters and the world's cutest puppy named Gus. I love traveling to art museums, reading on the beach, watching Dodgers baseball and BYU basketball and football, and doing puzzles. My favorite art form is painting landscapes and watercolor flowers. I believe that art is essential to a child's learning and development and I am honored to have the opportunity to share that knowledge with your children.

Instructional Goals:
I want your child to LEARN: how to use a variety of art media and techniques, artists from a variety of time periods and cultures, how to see the world through an artistic lens.
During class, I want your child DO the following: LISTEN, CREATE, SHARE and CLEAN up after themselves.
I want my students to KNOW: I care about them, they matter, and they can be their unique selves.
Curriculum:
Each semester, our curriculum will focus on exploring different media (art making materials) through learning about various environments and biomes around the world. Time allowing, we will cover the following:
Pencil/Colored pencil: Arctic
Marker: Urban
Chalk Pastel & Clay: Desert
Temperal: Rural/Farms
Watercolor/Oil Pastel: Oceans, Lakes & Ponds
Our Social Contract (Behavior Expectations):
We will RESPECT:
The teacher: actively listen, don’t interrupt, follow routines, speak kindly
Each other: Use positive words, keep your hands to yourself
Supplies: Take care of the supplies you are using, clean up after yourself
Self: Positive self-talk, do your best
Assessments/Grading:
Art is primarily a participation and performance course. Students are expected to pay attention, use class time wisely, and try their best with a positive attitude. Students will receive grades for practice assignments, major projects and a weekly participation grade. This grade is based on following the rules, focusing on their work and not needing constant reminders to be on task.
PRACTICE: Weekly Participation (20%)
MINOR: Daily Assignments (35%)
MAJOR: Projects (45%)
Absences:
I try to post slideshows with instructions to all our projects in Google Classroom. If your child misses one class they can easily catch up the next class period. If they are going to miss several class periods it is a good idea to check Google Classroom to see what has been missed. If you have supplies at home, feel free to try the project! If not, no worries, we will get your child caught up when they return to school.
Questions/Concerns:
PLEASE reach out to me if you have any questions about what we are learning in class or if you have any concerns about your child. If there is something that I need to know to better help your child learn, please share it with me! Email is the quickest way to reach me, my goal is to respond within 24 hours.
