HONORS CURRICULUM: 2026-2027
Honors class combines the curriculum of 7th grade (The Elements and Principles of Art) and 8th Grade (Art History Movements & Masters) with an increased focus on technical mastery and advanced processes. Enjoy the work of these talented artists!
Shaded Marbles
As a way of reviewing shading and accurately creating rounded forms, we did these glass marble drawings. The trick is that with glass objects, highlights and shadows are a little more complicated so students had to carefully study and recreate highlights, reflected light and cast shadows.
Yayoi Kusama Tribute Paintings
Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who incorporated DOTS and NETS into every painting, sculpture and installation she created. Flowers, pumpkins and mushrooms were her favorite subjects. She passed away recently and we paid tribute to her in these floral paintings inspired by her.
Spotlight Contour Line Drawings
After studying and practicing various types of contour line drawings, students did modified contour line drawings of still lifes from photographs. The goal was to draw these with mostly connected lines, really focusing on drawing visually. We added "spotlights" of bright color to bright up our line drawings.
Neurographs
Neurographic art is a relatively new concept--the process embraces allowing your brain to relax and subconciously create free-form, non-objective designs. Students chose a conceptual idea to prompt their line and color choices and let the lines flow! Aren't these just gorgeous?
Alliterative Acrostic Ice Cream Cones
Students had to use the letters of their name and invent an alliterative, crazy, creative flavor for each one! Don't these just look DELICIOUS???
Polaroid PIctures
We drew polaroid cameras, then attached a string of "photos" drawn to represent different important things in our lives.
