5th GRADE: Love Bugs
For Valentines Day, we drew these beautiful bugs filled with decorative lines and patterns and added painted paper hearts for a POP of color!
6th GRADE: KEITH HARING Valentines
We looked at the artwork of a variety of grafitti artists including American artist Keith Haring. Haring created bold expressive of "cookie cutter" figures in motion--often with hearts. We did our own versions just in time for Valentines day!
January: The ARCTIC (Colored Pencil & Pen)
5th GRADE: Mary Blair Winter Castles
Mary Blair was one of the first female Disney artists. She painted backgrounds for many early Disney movies and even designed the Disneyland ride "It's a Small World!" We created our own castles in her style using geometric and organic shapes and colored them in cool colors for a winter ice look!
5th GRADE: "Bears in Sweaters"
After learning about life in the arctic and the types of animals that live there, drew polar bears wearing fabulous, patterned, Scandinavian-inspired sweaters! We learned about a variety of ways to create value through mark-making: hatching, cross-hatching, scumbling and stippling. You can see how we used these to add value and texture to our polar bears!
6th GRADE: "Northern Lights Landscapes"
We started this project by learning about various ways to create value with pens and colored pencils--focusing on HATCHING and CROSS-HATCHING. After looking a pictures of amazing arctic landscapes and artists who live in and paint the arctic, we will create our own mountain "winterscapes" based on the work of graphic artist Jen Aranyi. We created our "Northern Lights" skies by coloring with markers then blending with a wet paintbrush. Aren't they just gorgeous???
