In our community, we will engage in the process of making and problem-solving. We will make drafts, sketches, and plans of their ideas and concepts before we begin to work on the piece(s) they want to create. This process takes time, feedback, and the courage to make mistakes.
Engaging in class with a focus on Process will allow you to resolve issues, think through your making as well as answer questions that come up in your work before you have invested significant time in the final product. Focusing on Process allows us to center our learning and thinking.
The “what” of your work is up to you. Find themes and concepts to drive and propel your work, Making work about what is important to you will allow you to engage and persevere in the practice of making. If you already know what motives you and you have passion for, what you want to express and communicate incorporate it in this class. It will make your work much stronger when you believe in the value of what you are making and investing your time in.
We are all a work in progress, there are elements of ourselves that we don't know yet, themes that we can explore and learn about, and parts of who we are that we might want to change - grow into or out of.
It’s all a process, you just have to be willing to take part in it - I'm here for it with you.
