4th & 5th String Program
4th Grade Strings Program
In Lexington, all 4th graders will have an opportunity to learn a string instrument in school.
Enrolled students will receive one 30 minute lesson per week.
Students will learn basic string techniques, music literacy, and how to play as an ensemble.
Students will be provided practice assignments between classes.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in performances.
This 4th grade program is the first step into Lexington’s orchestra program, which extends all the way through Lexington High School.

Though families may attain an instrument in any way they wish, we highly recommend renting instruments through one of our approved vendors.

Instrument reservations must be made online by Monday, September 11th, 2023. Instrument pickup night is Monday September 18th, 5-7pm at Lexington High School in the parking lot off of Waltham St (in case of rain: Commons II).
5th Grade Strings Program
5th grade continuing string players are welcome! String players in 5th grade also have the option of switching to bass. Students CANNOT study both a string and band instrument in school.
Continuing string students in 5th grade should all use the 5th grade registration form.
Enrolled students will receive one 30 minute lesson per week.
String students will continue to advance their skills and learn additional repertoire.
Students will be provided practice assignments between classes.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in performances.
Students can elect to participate in All-Town Orchestra. This extracurricular after school ensemble meets once per week and rehearses music that goes beyond the in-school curriculum. Registration for All-Town ensembles will take place in the fall.
Participation in the instrumental music program is voluntary.
