Managing Chronic and Acute Medical Conditions in School
The main roles school nurses have in managing acute and chronic health conditions are providing direct care, case management, and education, as well as advocating for students and their families to help them get the support and resources they need. If your child has an acute or chronic medical condition, please contact your school's nurse to discuss ways we can support your child’s physical, developmental, and emotional well-being.
Chronic Health Conditions
An order and care plan from your healthcare provider is needed for all rescue medications. Orders/care plans need to be renewed each year.
We recommend letting your child's teachers, specialists, bus drivers, coaches, after-school providers, and other adults who work closely with your child know of their condition(s). Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy/Seizures, and Life-Threatening Allergies are listed in your child's record in Aspen. Please see below for additional resources.
