Exchanges & Trips
During April vacation the Italian program offered a one-week trip to Tuscany. The group of 21 (18 students and 3 chaperones) was based in the medieval city of Siena, famous for its Palio and visited Florence, San Gimignano and the countryside where we ate a local agriturismo (farm to table cuisine).
The students attended an Italian language course at the Dante Alighieri Society in Siena focused on exploring the city (visiting the Duomo, Palazzo Pubblico, La via Francigena) and practicing their language skills in the local community.
They had the opportunity to attend a cooking class, a watercolor painting workshop with a local artist, and a wonderful evening in the Contrada della Torre.
As one of the students said “I enjoyed practicing my Italian with the locals and learning the culture and reflecting on the world” this was an intense experience of immersion in the Italian language and culture that will be offered again in the 2025-2026 school year .

From the moment I picked her up from the airport, it was a whirlwind. My family introduced her to new cuisines like Korean and Chinese, and also shared some family favorites like chicken marbella and paella. In our downtime, we watched each other’s favorite movies (Titanic and Legally Blonde). My family had a wonderful time hosting and would do it again in a heartbeat. I can’t wait to make more memories when I go visit Antony this February!

French Exchange Wrap up
It’s amazing how close you can get to another person when they become you for two weeks. Being part of the Exchange has been a phenomenal experience so far and we’re only halfway through! Becoming so close to a group of people so quickly is a unique experience you couldn’t get anywhere else: our corrèses are there from when our alarm clocks don’t wake us up to the last moments before we fall asleep. We get to laugh about the small experiences we have each day that we take for granted.
More than seeing how someone else could fit into our lives, hosting was really amazing because we got to see our friends interact with American culture and experiences. Nothing is cuter than seeing our corrèses distracted by passing bunnies or squirrels that we would barely glance at normally or hearing them direct translate words from French to English, leading to adorable sentences like “my friend proposed that we get ice cream later.”
Hosting has given me an experience I will treasure for a very long time and I cannot wait for the amazing experiences February will bring!
