The hackathon is now over and projects are visible on the results page. Thank you to everyone who participated!
We are suggesting some themes here to help spark your ideas. Please feel free to think outside the box too!
The Lexington community has not experienced such circumstances before. Some of the key challenge areas that we students could help solve are : the need for accurate disease prevention information in the multiple languages spoken in Lexington, the needs of our elderly for groceries, medicines and companionship, the needs of small businesses and employees who have to work from home, and the needs for our students to engage and maintain relationships in a virtual world. Broadly the themes are:
1. Health: How can we support and celebrate the efforts of frontline health workers who live amongst us. How can we help our neighbors and ourselves stay healthy and safe
2. Vulnerable Populations: The more vulnerable populations amongst us such as the economically unstable or the very elderly may face some problems related to the COVID-19 such as access to medicines, funds etc.
3. Businesses: Our beloved local businesses be they a pizza parlor or a barber’s shop are struggling with the closures. How can we help them stay afloat, collaborate effectively, and move parts of their business online?
4. Community: Promoting connection to friends, family, and neighbors to combat social isolation and the digitizing of public services
5. Education: Alternative learning environments and tools for students, teachers, and our entire school system
6. Entertainment: Alternatives to traditional forms of entertainment that can engage artists and audiences.
7. Other: Our natural environment, our remote relatives, anything else!
