About Mr. Roy

Before joining the faculty at Clarke Middle School, Mr. Roy taught and developed curriculum at the Cambridge Friends School, Oak Hill Middle School in Newton, and elsewhere. Mr. Roy has instructed students in 5th through 8th grades, spending most of his career teaching both English and social studies in grades six and eight.

He completed his M.Ed. in Middle School Education through the Shady Hill School and Lesley University Collaborative. Later, Mr. Roy graduated from ACCEPT's (formerly EDCO's) Educator Leadership Institute.

Mr. Roy is an affiliate and/or member of several professional organizations, including SRI, AMLE, ASCD, and Phi Delta Kappa.

Before becoming a professional educator, Mr. Roy worked with young people as a counselor, sailing instructor, and administrator at YMCA Camp Becket-in-the-Berkshires, and as an after-school teacher at the M.D. Fox Elementary School and the Trinity College Child Care Center, both in Hartford, CT.

2011 Finalist for MA Teacher of the Year

Mr. Roy and his former co-teacher, Mr. McGraw, at the 2011 MA Teacher of the Year Ceremony (June 2010). Mr. Roy and Mr. McGraw were named Finalists for Teacher of the Year in honor of their work developing and teaching as a project-based, interdisciplinary 6th grade team in Newton, MA. They were the first team in the awards history to reach this milestone. It was great having the chance to meet Governor Deval Patrick, the Secretary of Education, and the Commissioner for Elementary and Secondary Education.
