Grade Five Nature Walkers explore a ecosystems. They will explore and record in a forest ecosystem, observe interactions and interdependence in this system and discover the cyclic nature of the food/energy cycle. Students begin to understand that an ecosystem is a continually changing process of interdependence between plants, animals, fungi, and non-living things. In addition the students are introduced to scientific journaling.

It is strongly recommended that volunteers attend the on-site training at your school. Trainings are 30-45 minutes, typically, on the day of the walk, and begin in the lobby. If you are unsure of when the training occurs look back at the signup email or contact your Big Backyard team.
