Course Expectations

Here you will find the course expectations. Students, the course expectations provide an overview of what you can expect of me and this course. When you have read over the course expectations and, if you don't have any questions, please fill out the Google Form acknowledging you have read them over.

Course Description

Child Development introduces students to the interconnectedness of the biological, psychological, and emotional factors that influence growth from prenatal development through adolescence. Topics covered include an introduction to psychology, basic research methods, the role of attachment and parenting, the emergence of language, theories of intelligence and creativity, social and moral development. Students are asked to consider the various factors that expand or limit opportunities across aspects of development.

Materials

Each student is required to have a charged Chromebook, their document book, and a binder/folder in class each day. Binders/folders will be used to keep class handouts.

Homework

  • Assignments are due at the beginning of your assigned block unless otherwise noted. Late homework will be accepted for partial credit up until we take the unit assessment for the material.

  • Late assignments due to an excused absence will be accepted up to the number of days the student was absent for full credit.

  • If you are absent, check Google Classroom for makeup assignments.

  • Students who have an excused absence on the day of an assessment will be expected to email me to schedule a makeup time. You will not be able to make up an assessment if you have an unexcused absence.

Assessments and Grades

Quarter grades will be based on assessments, classwork assignments, homework assignments, and persistent effort & presence. To reflect this each assignment will be labeled as one of the following in Aspen:

  • Assessments (projects & free-response questions)

  • CW- Classwork (daily classwork, exit tickets)

  • HW- Homework

  • PE - Persistent effort (presence in class & preparedness)

Each assignment will have a points value assigned based on how much it should be weighted for the quarter but there will not be weighted categories.

The semester quarter grades will be determined as follows: Quarter 1- 30%, Quarter 2- 70%

In this class, you are encouraged to participate in a way that you are mindfully and thoughtfully contributing to the learning environment by stepping outside of your comfort zone, wherever that may be. Please see the presence rubric on my website to see how you will be assessed.
