What is the GSA?
We are a social action justice group, and we discuss things like LGBTQIA+ issues, rights, and how we can make Clarke a more friendly environment for people who are LQBTQIA+. In addition to meeting Friday WIN blocks, we are working on a time to meet after school around once every month.
Do I need to be LQBTQIA+ to join the GSA?
Absolutely not. Anyone who is interested in joining is welcome to come. Anyone who supports the LGBTQIA+ community is called a (straight) ally.
Do I need to reveal my sexual orientation/gender identity by joining the GSA?
Again, absolutely not. You may reveal what you feel comfortable reveling, and there is no pressure to say more than that. We use the Vegas Rule in GSA; what's said in the GSA, stays there.
What do you do in the GSA?
If it still isn't clear, we mostly have discussions about LGBTQIA+ issues, and also roll around in the conference room chairs. We already have a small group of amazing people that we hope to grow, and the discussions are more fun than they sound through the typing on this webpage. (I guarantee it's awesome).
Will people judge me or think that I'm gay if I join the GSA?
To be completely honest, there is probably somebody out there who will. However, these kinds of issues are what we talk about in GSA. If you don't want it to happen, then you made the right decision by joining the GSA. We're here to support you.
What are the different parts of the LGBTQIAP+ community?
There are many different parts of the LGBTQ+ community, but here is a very helpful picture to help you navigate through the different areas of this community and how gender identity and sexual orientation work. There is also other information on diffrent pages.
