DAY CAMPS
Rivers Summer Orchestra
Program Dates: August 14 – 18, 2023
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Get ready for the school year with a week-long morning program for string players of all levels! There are no pre-program auditions and students are placed in one of three string orchestras after the first day. In one week students learn repertoire and prepare for a final concert.
Each day includes rehearsals, sectionals, and a break with refreshments. Students do not have to participate in the Rivers Youth Orchestras program to attend!

Rivers Summer Music:
Session I: July 10 – 21, 2023
Session II: July 24 – August 4, 2023

Summer Music at Rivers is a two-week summer program for students ages 8-18; however, younger students may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Students of any wind, string, or brass instruments, or piano are welcome to audition. Each session concludes with performances of the chamber groups and large ensembles.
Audition Requirements Students should prepare two contrasting pieces/movements that best demonstrate their abilities and one or two scales of their choice (no piano accompaniment). All participants are required to have complete suzuki book 3 or comparable repertoire. Complete an online application to schedule an audition.

South Shore Conservatory Summer Music Festival: July 13-21, 2023
Morning String Intensive
Leigh Schoepflin, David Palombo, Elijah Langille, directors
The morning chamber music intensive is an adaptive, unique program that offers students a range of topics like chamber technique, improvisation, fiddling, modern music methods, and digital orchestral exploration. Paired with individual and small ensemble instruction, students received personalized support on a variety of topics, broadening their scope of what they can do with their instrument.
Who: violin, viola, cello, and double bass students currently in grades 4-college
When: Thursday, July 13 - Friday, July 21, 2023; 8 am - 12 pm each day
Festival Orchestra
Leigh Schoepflin, David Palombo, Elijah Langille, directors
In the Festival Orchestra, students develop their core musicianship in a focused ensemble setting. In addition to daily ensemble rehearsals, students participate in regular sectional rehearsals and coachings with members of the SMF faculty. Students also participate in regular musicianship sessions and social activities. Repertoire is selected from classic to modern orchestral composers, including music from a diverse collection of styles, genres, and composers.

IVORIES AND BOWS: Aug 14-18, 2023
Before- and after-care available
Ivories and Bows is our program for young beginners who play piano, violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students enjoy a fun and collaborative group setting, focusing on instrument technique and performance skills. This camp is perfect for students who have 0-3 years experience.

Powers Music School

AGE: Ages 8-18 (CITs ages 16-18). Open to strings, piano, winds, brass, classical guitar.
COST: Summer 2023 Registration Fee: $15. Summer 2023 Tuition: Session 1 (2 weeks) - $1,600, Session 2 (1 week) - $830, Both sessions - $2,310, CITs: 50% tuition discount. Limited financial aid is available - scroll down for instructions.
AUDITION REQUIRED
MOTH 2023 will run on the following dates –
Session 1: June 26-July 7 (No July 4th),
Session 2: July 10-14.
MOTH placement auditions (new and returning students) will be held March 17, 18, 24, April 1, 28, 29, and May 5. New students are invited to register after audition and acceptance. Returning MOTH students are welcome to register starting January 3 using the registration links in the purple section below, then should schedule a placement audition.

Southern Maine String Camp was founded in 1970 as the “Maine ASTA Summer String Conference.” Over 50 years later, SMSC is still a place where students and music educators come together with a common focus on our mission: to provide an opportunity for string players ages 10-18 to grow as musicians in a non-competitive environment, while enjoying the classic Maine summer camp experience.
