The Mission of the School Counseling Department at Lexington High School is to provide support and guidance to all students as a means to foster academic success, post-secondary and career preparation, and personal/social development. Lexington High School’s Counseling Department is committed to maintaining the individual uniqueness of each student and skillfully using strategic, timely, and personal interventions to maximize educational experiences, enhance the development of each student’s human potential, close achievement gaps among high and low-performing groups, and support positive life choices.
All students at Lexington High School are uniquely talented learners who will graduate meeting the standard student profile as defined by the Texas Legislature. The counseling department will help to ensure this by personally engaging with students, and by providing them with resources that inspire inquiry and growth, social responsibility, and academic/career excellence.
The Counseling Department at Lexington High School believes that:
All students are valuable and have dignity and worth.
All students can achieve and be successful learners.
All students can expect that school is a safe and nurturing environment.
All students will have access to high-quality school counseling services, provided by a full-time licensed, professional school counselor.
All students’ ethnic, cultural, and racial differences are considered in the design and delivery of school counseling services.
As the world changes, we must change with it; providing for the various (and variable) needs of every student.
The school counselors’ primary purpose is to advocate for the student.
Abiding by ethical and moral standards as outlined by the American School Counselor Association is imperative for student success
It is important for school counselors to maintain an awareness of their own social and cultural backgrounds and how their experiences influence their attitudes, values, and biases about psychological processes.
It is important to recognize how race, culture, physical and mental constitution, and other areas of diversity affect personality formation and choices.
