Fall Semester Exam Exemption Information
Students may be eligible to exempt their final exams at the end of the semester provided they meet second period attendance requirements and other expectations related to: mature behavior, personal responsibility, grades, mastery of grade level expectations, attendance and attendance for credit. The primary purposes of semester exam exemptions is to encourage good attendance, desirable CCMR outcomes and good grades. Exemption is by class period and means that the student is excused from attending the corresponding exam period.
2nd period attendance is the target attendance period and/during STAAR testing, 5th period is the late start attendance period. (Exception, Junior and Senior CCMR Bingo, outlined below).
Due to concerns about attendance on Friday, Friday absences will count twice.
Generally, the following are the permitted number of exemptions:
· Seniors are eligible for all exemptions, if they have met CCMR criteria and have at least one aligned IBC, with exceptions
· Juniors are eligible for all exemptions, if they have met CCMR criteria and have at least one aligned IBC, with exceptions
· Sophomores are eligible for four (4) exemptions at the most, electives only, with exceptions
· Freshmen are eligible for four (4) exemptions at the most, electives only, with exceptions
Attendance, Grades, CCMR:
0 absences for 2nd period -- Students are eligible for all allocated exemptions if they have passed for the third nine weeks and are passing the class, and have met CCMR.
Juniors & Seniors CCMR Exceptions
Passed all classes at Third Nine Weeks
Passing all classes at the time grades are pulled for exemptions
If you haven’t met any CCMR Criteria, then you must take your Math & English exams
If you have partially met CCMR Criteria, then you must take the Math or English exam depending on which one you need for CCMR
Cannot have 90% attendance for credit concerns for exempted classes
Appropriate participation in STAAR assessments
Appropriate participation in TELPAS assessments
Appropriate participation in ASVAB, SAT & ACT exams (as related to your grade level)
If you are taking a course with an aligned IBC, appropriate participation/completion of the IBC process
Sophomores & Freshmen
Passing all classes at Third Nine Weeks
Passing all classes at the time grades are pulled for exemptions
Will take all core class exams regardless of grades
Cannot have 90% attendance for credit concerns for exempted classes
Appropriate participation in STAAR assessments
Appropriate participation in TELPAS assessments
Appropriate participation in TSI exams (as related to your grade level)
If you are taking a course with an aligned IBC, appropriate participation/completion of the IBC process
Up to but no more than 3 absences for 2nd period -- Students with less than three absences are still eligible for exemptions, just not as many. It also means that they must not only be passing all of their classes, but also have at least an 80 in all the classes. Seniors may have half the number of classes. Juniors may have 3 exemptions and minus one per less than a full day schedule. Sophomores & Freshmen may have 2 exemptions maximum, selected from electives by the campus.
Seniors & Juniors (as indicated)
Seniors (4 for a full 8 period day or half the number of classes CTE practicum counts as one period/one exemption, and cannot be English & Math if you haven’t met CCMR criteria)
Juniors (3 and minus one per less than a full day schedule, internship/blocked classes count as one period/one exemption, and cannot be English & Math if you haven’t met CCMR criteria)
Passing all classes at Third Nine Weeks, with an 80 or better
Passing all classes at the time grades are pulled for exemptions with an 80 or better
Cannot be English or Math if you haven’t met CCMR
Cannot have 90% attendance for credit concerns for exempted classes
Appropriate participation in STAAR assessments
Appropriate participation in TELPAS assessments
Appropriate participation in CCMR testing opportunities: SAT, ACT, ASVAB, TSIA2
Appropriate participation in the IBC process
Sophomores & Freshmen (2) only selected by LHS Staff from electives only
Passing all classes at Third Nine Weeks, with an 80 or better
Passing all classes at the time grades are pulled for exemptions with an 80 or better
Selected from elective by LHS staff only
