Click on the video button above to hear from some of our past interns and what they gained from their internship experience!
Benefits of internship? An internship assists with career development by providing real work experiences that provide students with opportunities to explore their interests and develop professional skills and competencies. Internships help students gain experience, develop skills, make connections, strengthen their resumes, learn about a field, and assess their interests and abilities.
Be at least 16 years of age.
Identify and acquire employment that is related to his/her career goal as identified on the student’s IGP. This work experience must extend and expand the student’s knowledge and skills beyond the scope of a part-time job. If a determination cannot be made from the application as to how the job relates to the student’s career goal, the application may be rejected.
There should be no expectation of “payment” for the internship employment unless agreed upon prior to the placement.
Internships are structured semester or year-long programs here at RBHS that coordinate high school coursework with a job in a field related to a student’s major and/or career interest.
Career Specialists and participating businesses develop written training and evaluation plans to guide workplace activities. Students receive course credit for their work experiences.
1. Secure an internship placement - Students are responsible for finding their own internship placement. Career Specialists are not responsible for securing an internship. They can assist by giving ideas for placement but students and parents can reach out to their network (friends, family, co-workers, etc.) to secure the placement. 2. Complete theWBL Application 2026-27WBL Application 2026-27 or if you are interested in LMC, complete the LMC application: Lexington Medical Center Application (LMC)
3. Submit the application to your Career Specialist before the deadline of February 27, 2026.
How to Secure an Internship
Be proactive. Search places in their area of interest.
Reach out and ask them if they would be interested in having an intern.
If you need assistance, ask a parent, guardian, or any other person in your network that may be able to help reach out to a place of business to see if they would allow you to intern for next year.
Helpful Script when talking to potential employers :My name is ______________________. I’m a rising senior at RBHS. I have the awesome opportunity to gain experience, develop skills, and make connections as an intern next year in my area of interest. In the future, I have a desire to______________________. An internship will allow me to learn about the field and assess my interest and abilities. This internship can be a semester-long or a year-long class. Students are required to complete 120 hours with an employer. That equates to about 7 hours a week (semester-long) or about 4 hours per week (yearlong). At the end, I have the potential to earn a high school honors credit. I’m reaching out to you to see if you would consider having me as your intern for next school year. (Answer any questions they may have). If you have any other questions, you can contact my Career Special. Lexington Medical Center internship positions are competitive. We have a select number of positions allotted for our district as a whole. You will be competing with students from all high schools. You will complete the Lexington Medical Center Part 1 application found here.
If you are selected for a position, you will be contacted to complete Part 2 of the application. Lexington Medical Center requires students to be vaccinated. You will also be required to get a 2-Step TB test if selected. Selection emails will go out sometime in May. If you are not selected, that does not mean you cannot complete an internship. You're still allowed to find another internship placement elsewhere. At that time, you will need to complete the regular WBL 26-27 application.
Many students want a career in pharmacy. We have great partnerships with Walgreens and other pharmacies.
